    Oh, definitely, definitely.

There's a film called Shaun of the Dead, and there's this sequence where they're flicking through the TV channels and all the words are connecting together. So it starts off on the news, where it says something like, 'It would appear that the dead have come alive. There's...' and then they flick over onto 'Panic on the streets of London!' It would have made my day if I'd been into Morrissey when I first saw the film.

There is an advertisement for, I think, Liverpool Victoria insurance in which a man is driving a car with his wife or girlfriend and on the window-screen it says "Dave" over him and "The One" over her!

Hahaha, I'm not sure if that thing with the names on the windscreens was very widespread or not in the early-/mid-nineties, because I've seen it in a Blur video too.

Last year at school my form tutor would say 'Still ill?' if someone had been away for more than a day when he was calling the register.

    Also... "Dave"

I always point out Smiths references (possible ones) in Coronation Street... everyone keeps telling me they're just Northern-isms! I was about to point it out when someone said "Hand in glove", but then I remembered it was from 1971!

I think, but I'm not sure, it was the character that Moz was hinting at killing off in his rejected script... Bette! Or it might not have been

Wow... your superior knowledge of Coronation Street astounds me. *bows down in reverence*

I heard the Smiths played as background music in Eastenders twice in one week once!

Oh, I try! I only saw that because I got the best of 1971 on DVD as I love Hilda Ogden!

I've only ever gone out of my especially to see Eastenders once! It was the Stella (Or maybe wrong name) storyline... the wedding day!

Edit: Oh, once more actually... the end of the Who Shot Phil? story also!

I hate Eastenders. Maybe it's set too close to where I live.
I just liked it when they played the Smiths in the background.

I'm not sure if this has already been posted...sorry if it was! I bought the August 2008 issue of Q Magazine this week and saw this in an interview with Mark Ronson:

Q Mag: Pop music's still so tribal. Mark, your cover album provoked a lot of aggro. Especially your cover of The Smiths' Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before.

Mark Ronson: People thought I was trying to improve certain artists. I wasn't. I was bored by the music out there and decided to re-record some of my favourite songs to play in clubs. I got beef for some of the versions. The Smiths version was the worst. I got a MySpace message from some kid saying, "I can't believe you did that to a Morrissey/Marr song. I'm going to stab you." Now whatever his relationship with Morrissey and Marr is that I've violated, that's scary. I don't mind people saying, "You did a shitty job." But Morrissey fans...they're different.

Hahaha, Mark is very diplomatic, isn't he?

Reading the past few posts just reminded me of something... Last week while I was at my parent's house they had on Keith Oberman's show, he used the term "Hand in Glove." He was referring to two things that go together and the phrase I had always heard was "they go hand in hand" not "hand in glove." so immediately my ears perked up and I asked my Mom if that was a common phrase as I'd only heard it in the Smiths song. She said she'd never heard of it. IS it a common phrase? Am just illiterate?

I don't know if it's common, but I found this:

hand in glove (British, American & Australian, American)
if one person or organization is working hand in glove with another, they are working together, often to do something dishonest. It was rumoured at the time that some of the gangs were working hand in glove with the police.

Morrissey asked my cousin where he was from. He answered Compton, which to Morrissey replied"Oh, so you're straight outta Compton aye?"[QUOTE from Ready With Ready-Wit;830350]

On the weekend I was out in the city (Melbourne, Australia) and it was around 3am and we just left a bar and were stumbling drunk towards the nigh rider buses when I swear to god I could hear Girlfriend in a Coma being played ... so I dragged everyone along to follow the sound and turns out that there is an all night chip/burger shop called Lord of the Fries on a street corner and they had the best of the Smiths cd blasting out ... needless to say they got my business and a thumbs up, but honestly to hear any smiths/morrissey reference in Australia is very rare so this was a real surprise.

What a nice surprise that must have been.
I have always been intrigued that my Australian mates have no idea about The Smiths and Moz, any idea why?
