It's thanks to you and your music that my first proper beer was a Guinness. The Pogues are/were a joke and McGowan is the worst example of a plastic paddy I have ever seen.

This type of cod 'Irishness' is popular all over the world amongst people who do not live or wish to live in Ireland, but wish to buy into the romantic idea of an Ireland long gone.

Have you ever considered a career in comedy? You're pretty good--need to polish the delivery a bit more, maybe work on the one-liners, but you definitely have a knack for out-there thinking. I myself have nary a drop of Irish blood in my veins, and I'm 12 generations removed from my nearest ancestors in England--thus I am not personally offended by bigoted statements about "plastic paddies;" I'm simply pointing out that you, as an otherwise educated person, are just as bigoted as run-of-the-mill bigots anywhere.

As for Shane being my "hero," nothing could be more laughable. Heroes are people who change the world using their thoughts and actions. Shane, like the man whom this site celebrates, is merely a singer and entertainer, and one whose personal life is hardly one that anybody should try to emulate. Anybody who worships an entertainer as a hero needs his head examined. Come to think of it, that's your profession, isn't it?
