BILLY BRAGG TO MORRISSEY: "You're a bore"

Billy Bragg, the [commie] singer-songwriter and author of The Progressive Patriot, said yesterday: "I think what he said is inflammatory. He just doesn't realise he's playing with fire. I can't help feeling there's a certain wilfulness in talking to the NME and bringing these things up.

"Do I think he's a racist? No. Do I think he's foolish to say these things? Yes I do. He's someone who used to be able to articulate an Englishness that's attractive and charming. No, he's not a racist, he's a bore. And to the old Morrissey, that would have been even worse, and I speak as a Smiths fan."

Eh, that's socialists for you ;)

It appears these days that you have to screen your opinion and have it proof read before expressing it.

Religion & race are the eggshells we tip toe around. Deviate from the general consensus on these issues and incur the wrath of the masses. Sigh......

Good to see old Billy still spouting the Party Line..

I said this on the main forum but much I have some sympathy for Billy's words I can't help feeling he is a man caught up in his own nostalgia and ideology.

Only his is "Labour, right or wrong". The only thing is it's lead him into supporting a government waging an illegal war rather than saying a few dodgy things to a magazine.

morrissey a bore ...what a joke i think billy bragg is a boring tw*t, is music is shite, and so is he

Much as I hate to admit it, that hurts.

I was wondering which "celebrities" would be willing to back him. The stench of racism is so strong, I doubt many would.

'Ol Billy was lending a hand, and slapping him with it.

thats because he's a tw*t

Are you spelling TWIT or TWAT?

Just need clarification as I'm Billys Legal Representative and I need to have my facts right for the Subpoena

What a shame, just seems as if "old" Billy wants a bit of attention himself. He'll be 50 on December 20.

What does age have to do with it? Morrissey's not that far behind, and many people think that this is just one big publicity stunt.

Billy's been a bit obsessed with Morrissey since the beginning, and I think he's truly disappointed. True, Billy can be terribly self-righteous at times (well, most of the time), but we are talking about a political singer, for goodness sakes.

Yeah, Bragg has always had a pretty major obsession with Morrissey. He's almost incapable of playing live without mentioning his name.
I don't think he's read Morrissey's Guardian piece; would be interesting to hear what he thinks of that but BB is hugely PC so he's likely to object to anything that doesn't talk exclusively about the benefits of immigration.
He's written some cracking songs but pretty much nothing of any merit since 1991. His fanbase has shrunk too. He can still get a decent crowd at his concerts but his last two albums have sold in pitiful quantities.
Perhaps he's a little jealous of Morrissey's 21st century success...

If you ask me, I think he's ALWAYS been a bit jealous of Morrissey (and I speak from personal experience).

BB knows an effective firebrand when he sees one, though, and he also knows when things have gone too far. He's right - the NME may have assassinated Morrissey's character, but Moz handed them the gun.

i disagree. the masses are not attacking morrissey. don't let the far left frame it that way. It's all politics. Bragg made a political statement. It's one i expect from him. Morrissey does similar stuff. we all do. we stretch the truth to convince the public we are right. we frame things a certain way according to our ideology. really, all people are a bunch of posers.

you've always been jealous of morrissey?

Morrissey has inspired many feelings in me over the years, but jealousy, never.

The story was the first thing I posted on Solo, years ago, when I ran into a piece about Billy Bragg and Morrissey:

I was a terribly shy girl alone in the big city for the first time, hanging out at a club with my new friends (this was in 1984, I think). For no reason at all, BB comes over and starts ranting about Morrissey. He gets right up in my face and starts touching himself and howling "Oh, Morrissey, Oh, Morrissey" and mocking me. This was in New York, and all us little punks knew who Billy Bragg was, and it was humiliating and embarrassing to be singled out like that in public. The funny thing was that BB was obviously more obsessed with Morrissey than I was. The two of them have been linked in my mind ever since.

Fast forward, Billy is still going on about Morrissey, and I have become the crazed obsessive that he accused me of being all those years ago.

How did he know?

Bloody Hell:eek:When did Billy Bragg last have a number one selling album??

Nearly as good as Dannii Minge (oops :o sorry Minogue) lecturing the singers on X Factor.
