    Default The Parenthood Thread

I thought it was about time us Mozzy-Mummy's and Daddy's had a little place to meet...to share our little parenting triumphs...and disasters!...to seek advise and support from other parents when the chips are down...and to gloat a bit on the odd occasion when we actually get things right!

Good idea darling! You are the Mummy when it comes to solo!

Your wise words after my "I'm a shit Mum" day yesterday have really helped. Though the image of my Noah throwing that Newborn around like an old dolly is still haunting me!!! Next week he is not leaving my side mate I can assure you!!!

Perhaps I should start a thread for any style dilemmas being the Wardrobe Mistress! I think I'm more suited to couture issues than childcare!

    My latest Mummy-related dilemma....

My six year old son has been cast as a reindeer in the school Christmas play. The problem is I can't get him to wear the costume...well he will wear MOST of the costume...but is refusing to don a pair of tights which his teacher is insisting on on the grounds that tights "are for girls!" and they are just not "cool!"....

"But Spiderman wears tights and he is REALLY cool!"

"Yeah...but Spiderman doesn't have to wear them with a pair of antlers!"

I guess he does have a point!

Guess I'll just have to employ that good old Mummy staple...good old fashioned BRIBERY!

Why oh why did my sweet-baby 2-year-old have to go and turn 3??? Three-year-olds are just impossible.

My son was horrid at 3...the spawn of the devil himself!....I would be pushing him around the supermarket in the trolly whilst he screamed blue murder for no reason WHATSOEVER and seriously thought many times about just bloody leaving him there!

Glad I didn't though...he's six now and a great little boy...just take a deep breath and remember...it really is just a phase (I have hated people that have told me over the years that my childcare concerns were "just a phase"...but they were usually right!)

I am lucky that my boy is pretty good most of the time, we did have tantrums at 2 but they passed. I recall one time when he was about that age, maybe younger and his dad and I were looking at a book on the floor, the cat jumped up at the kitchen door startling Dylan who yelled fu***** fright! it was then that we decided to stop swearing, well as much as possible anyway.
He is at the moment sulking cause I am not taking him to see Morrissey.

    happier here.

That is so cute. Plus, you can use that doll later on to teach him about the facts of life. (Well, half of them, anyway.)

My daughter forgot her packed lunch this morning and didn't realise till we were actually at school...so its only quarter past nine and I have already ran a bloody marathon....like a bat outta hell I was!....and suitably knackered now! Still...all good practice for the sprint at The Roundhouse when they throw those doors open I guess!

Friday today...which means just one thing...another dash...this time the weekly trolly dash around Tesco...oh the glamour of it all!

You'd think my kids were Italian instead of mostly Irish. That's all the little lifesucking bastards will eat. One must have marinara, one will only eat it plain.

Last night I didn't make them anything separate from what we were eating, because I am DONE cooking two separate meals. So I put before them a plate containing a delicious garlic pan-roasted brussels sprout, a slice of grilled polenta, and one mushroom tart. You would have thought I was ripping their fingernails off. I poured another glass of wine and let Daddy sort it out.

They just started a great new thing at their school. It has a significant percentage of low-income kids, and the school just got a grant that lets them provide free breakfast to all children. So I don't have to feed them in the morning, I just drop them off and they eat first thing while the teachers read to them and do attendance. The breakfasts are decent, various whole grain cereal, milk, juice, and a piece of fruit. I'm going to save so much money on Cheerios it's not even funny.

The dreaded All-White Diet. Macaroni, rice, white bread, chicken (in nugget or finger form only), sugar.
