Perhaps the most and enlightened Smiths/Moz collector and devotee had ten of the shirts.....saw the kid get beat-up and bloody....took the shirt of his back..... gave it to the kid... and now everyone twitches?
I think part of this phenomenon has to do with Hot Topic carrying Smiths and Moz t-shirts. I go there with my daughter, she's into lots of the so-called emo bands. Hot Topic is, of course, the emo/juvenile 'punk' emporium located in your local mall. And--gasp--I bought myself a Morrissey tee there a couple months back. Maybe the kids are picking up the shirts, thinking they just look cool. Or maybe they find out about The Smiths and Moz through their idols, because many of the emo bands cite The Smiths as influences. Who knows, but it would bother me personally to encounter anyone wearing Moz on their chest and not know a thing about him...
