    Default Mozz Mix Disk Time

I have a friend (hard to believe I know) - who has only heard How Soon Is Now and the occasional Mozz song on XM Radio.

I already told her to get all the Smiths records, but instead of choosing just one Mozz record, because we all know how controversial that can get on here, I want to make her one mix cd of 16 Morrissey solo songs.

    Here is my criteria

    1) Nothing too popular - as it is usually played on XM so she has already heard First of the Gang, The More You Ignore Me, and Everyday is Like Sunday.

    2) The ones I have listed are set in stone, I want the cd to flow as well so I am choosing the track order as well.

    3) I'm letting my friends here on Mozz-solo help me out, so avoid all sarcasm please this is for someone who is interesting in learning more about Morrissey we should honor the man and make sure she is getting the best of songs and not Papa Jack. I will take all suggestions so please help me out we all know there are so many good ones to choose from but at the end of the day I will have the last word!! bwhahahahahah.

    Swallow on My Neck

Chek out how iTunes do their 'Artist Essentials'. They have three sections: 'The Basics', 'Next Steps' and 'Deep Cuts'

I would suggest you give them The Basics, enough to get them hooked, but not so 'fan-centric' that they get put off.

I just finished making my Morrissey/Smiths Best Of for a mate and these are the tracks I chose:

    - First Of The Gang To Die
    - LOTF International Playboys
    - You Have Killed Me
    - Alma Matters
    - The More You Ignore Me...
    - Everyday Is Like Sunday
    - I Have Forgiven Jesus
    - Suedehead
    - Let Me Kiss You
    - Trouble Loves Me

I know you said you didn't want songs that they might have heard on the radio but I'd suggest putting them on anyway. There's a difference between hearing a song on the radio and listening to the songs on CD.

Hope to see your mate lurrking around these forums in a few weeks

Does your friend like a "Rock" sound? Ballads? Acoustic vs. Electric? Could be the difference between Viva Hate and Southpaw Grammar.

I know opinions are like ass-holes, but if I had never heard Moz before and someone gave me that disc, I'd never buy a Morrissey disc ever again. But...that is only because I like the hard stuff - Glamorous Glue, Tomorrow, Speedway, Disappointed, LOTFIP, Dagenham Dave...

I got into the softer stuff by way of the guitar rock. But I NEVER got into I Have Forgiven Jesus!

One thing that most of you may be forgetting is that the overall track length must be 80:00 or under. Its not the quantity of songs but the overall length if it is to fit on a single disk. So for some of you ... back to the drawing board.

Personally, I would bring the tracks into chronological order. I hate it when compilation albums are jumping forwards and backwards in time.

    hehe - that's funny...

    but to be honest:
i never liked the song until i realized what a beautiful line 'ready with ready wit' was.
or 'at the flesh rampage - AT YOUR AGE'
maybe you should give it another try, buzzi ;-)

    Default Morrissey Mix CD

I'm sure this will get moved to off-topic, but I'll post it here anyways.

I'm currently finishing up a mix-cd of Morrissey songs for a good friend of mine. She really likes The Smiths but hasn't ever listened to him solo material, I'm sure we've all been there at one point.

Here's the tracklisting for you to criticise and/or help me out.

    1. You're Gonna Need Someone On Your Side
    2. Billy Budd
    3. Suedehead
    4. Bengali In Platforms
    5. Sing Your Life
    6. Jack the Ripper (Live at Hammerstein 10/23)
    7. The World..Crashing Bores
    8. The Operation (Radio Edit)
    9. In The Future..Alls Well
    10. We Hate it When Our Friends Become Successful
    11. Certain People I know
    12. Never-Played Symphonies
    13. He Knows I'd Love to See Him
    14. Life Is A Pigsty
    15. I Don't Mind If You Forget Me
    16. Girl Least Likely To
    17. Teenage Dad on His Estate
    18. Friday Mourning
    19. Sister I'm a Poet (Live at Hammerstein 10/26)
    20. Dear God Please Help Me w/ Auld Lang Syne (Live at Hammerstein 10/27)
    21. Speedway

Sister I'm a Poet begins with Moz saying "are you bored yet? well give me 5 minutes" and ends with applause
Dear God Please Help Me begins with applause and Moz saying "my tongue won't stay in my mouth"

I thought I'd use those to add a touch more of his humor to the songs.

I want to include 'Roy's Keen' (since my name is Roy) in there, maybe in place of 'Teenage Dad'?
    Possibly 'Tomorrow' or 'Disappointed'

Any advice would be great and more than appreciated

    Nice mix!

This is my mix of choice, which fits perfectly on a CD (so it's great to give to friends who you're trying to turn on to Moz):

    1. I Know It's Over
    2. Death of a Disco Dancer
    3. Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me
    4. Late Night Maudlin Street
    5. I've Changed My Plea to Guilty
    6. I Know It's Gonna Happen Some Day
    7. Now My Heart Is Full
    8. Speedway
    9. Nobody Loves Us
    10. Trouble Loves Me
    11. The Edges Are No Longer Parallel
    12. Come Back to Camden
    13. Friday Mourning
    14. Dear God, Please Help Me
    15. Life is a Pigsty

The songs are in chronological order, but I usually play it on 'shuffle' mode.
