New Danish band Northern Portrait has more than once been compared to Morrissey/The Smiths, so I thought I'd recommend it in this forum. Hope you like it!?

Following the excellent 'Fallen Aristocracy' ep they have a new ep out in July called 'Napoleon Sweetheart'.
    Tracks are:
'I Give You Two Seconds To Entertain Me'/'In An Empty Hotel'/'Sporting A Scar'/'Our Lambrusco Days'.
Hopefully an album will be out later in the year, i certainly hope so.
You can hear the lead track on their myspace page.

Also here are some demos on mp3 if you'd them and very good they're too.
'The Operation Worked But The Patient Died'.

Theyre on Matinee records. Their jangly guitars are catchy and infectious and the vocals reminds me of early Morrissey .

Northern Portrait have covered Cliff Richard's classic 'Some People' and turned it into a jangle fest.
    In their own words
'Some time ago we were asked to contribute a tune to quite a wonderful project called REWIND - the only criteria; it had to be a cover version of an 80s song'.

So here's the mp3 if you'd like it:

    All the best! x

P.S Here's the original if you're brave enough to watch the video.

I can't wait for the Napoleon Sweetheart Ep to be released..the cover looks like a classic Smiths single.

I added these guys on MySpace almost a year ago, great band
"I think both me and Morrissey are about as proud as anyone can be about those records. I'm proud of everything the band did, and I'm proud of the relationship, and I'm proud of the friendship. I don't have any feud going on. I support what Andy's doing, and I don't know what Morrissey's doing but I'm behind it." - Johnny Marr, 2013.

Yeah that's quite unusual, hopefully they'll get their arses on tour once the album is done.

I know they are working on a full length record right now. I used to have conversations with one of the guys and I remember him saying there was talk of a video shoot. i think they may also be rehearsing with an additional member for live shows but I could be wrong.

Very good band, there is another Brilliant musician called The Primrose League, you should check him out really complex and beautiful guitar Marr-esque riffs...All the music he does himself...

Classy, classy stuff. I would dearly love to hear their cover of Cliff Richard's Some People - any links?

    Cheers,

Thank you for that, nice to see they've discovered some other bands too..like the Trashcans and the Sarah records label.
It also says they've released the 'Napoleon Sweetheart EP' but i'm pretty sure they haven't yet...unless it sneaked out.

He's the one with a wave of Smiths' how-to guitar stuff on youtube put out last year. Great stuff by him.

Thanks for the link Charlie! Listening to it right now, nice!

The N.S EP is due out this month, anytime now. I'm very excited about the debut album too. Wonder what Morrissey makes of 'em?

I'm pretty sure he won't have heard them unless any of his backroom staff are in the know.
