What is the best gig you've seen?

Okay then, we've all got our favourites, but what's the best concert you've ever attended? Moz in Hartlepool 2000 sticks in my mind, for reasons I won't go into, but what about Battersea, etc, etc, etc, ?

best gigs in recent memory: Suede Oct 99 Poole England, Morrissey Dec 99 Ventura California, Radiohead 01 Woodlands Texas.

best gig ever? Probably Morrissey 99. Hearing 'Half A Person' live was probably the best experience ever.

I really liked Moz the two times I saw him, BUT when I saw REM on their UP tour, I fell back I love and got that CD the next day. It was an outstanding performance. I was also glad to finally see them, and before theyhad a man overboard.

Plus, I was overemotional for both of Morrissey's performances, bias you know.

Keep smiling!

I've got to agree on the over-emotional thing here. When Moz played Nottingham in 1999 I'd been looking forward to it so much that it all became too much for me. I remember feeling quite ill on the way back. Next night in Leeds was anticipated less and enjoyed a lot more.

The Metro, in Chicago February, 2000. Although not the first concert for me, but a truly magnificent show that I will never forget all the same. I would rate it the best of 'Morrissey solo' concerts.

#1 Tie between "Nine Inch Nails" @ Universal Ampatheatre

(Los Angeles '96 maybe?)

- AMAZING Visuals. "Hurt" on the mesh screen

with the movie playing and Trent lit

underneath. Piano solo right before the snake

strikes at the crowd.

"Radiohead" @ The Greek

(Los Angeles '00)

- Getting tix was a bitch but I got great seats,

8th row and danced and laughed and got

butterflies in my stomach like I did when I

was 8 years old. Danced with no rythym, just

bobbed to the music like a crazy person.

#2 Morrissey @ Pacific Ampatheatre

(Cost Mesa, CA '91 maybe)

- First Morrissey show. Paid like $180.00 for 6th

row seats. I touched his thumb. I cried

momentarilly. I saw the guy who had been M.I.A.

for YEARS! He was only a voice to me until that

night.

#3 Tie between "GENE" @ John Anson Ford Theatre. (L.A., CA '99?)

- First time I heard "Speak to me someone" before

they had recorded it. Fell in love with the song.

The show was great, (Its Gene, how could it not be)

and I went into the closed off balcony on the side

of the stage and made out during a few songs with a

guy I was seeing who was doing stage production that

night. He got me into the aftershow thing and I had

NEWCASTLE BROWN ALE for the first time. Met Martin,

the weather was warm. Everything about that night

was perfect.

"Echobelly" @ The Roxy - Long ass time ago, L.A., CA.

- Sonja was Gorgeous, Her voice blows my mind. The

show was good and I got to meet them afterwords.

Never thought they would be gone for so long

afterwords. Deb quit after that tour.

"DEFTONES" @ London Arena and Manchester Apollo, UK

(March 2001)

- London show was AMAZING and got to watch from the

stage. Looked out to see over 6000 kids rocking

out, and I danced like a madman too. It was

London. The stage design was cool with the lights

and Deftones signs. ~ Manchester show was great

and I got to share it with my favorite guy in the

world.

And Honorable Mention goes to

The JAzz Butcher Conspiracy @ The Troubadour last year.
-Oh My God, I love this band! I thought they were dead! I saw them and was STUNNED!

I completely agree. The Metro show in Chicago in Feb 2000 was absolutley special -intimate, playful and the first time songs like "Ouija" and "Hated" were ever performed live. I feel fortunate to have been able to see Morrissey quite a few times on each tour but The Metro show may very well top them all. (although I was not at the Wolverhampton '88 show I imagine that may be the best(semi)solo concert of all time.)

Bremen in 99 was very good and it had a few special moments. Same goes to the two Washington DC shows in 2000 that had a very enthusiastic crowds.

I went to Hartlepool too and loved it, may I ask why you did?

> Moz in Hartlepool 2000 sticks in

Hartlepool..?? Obscure.. but excellent... if there is a next tour I shall definitely come out of London and go regional.. A different crwod and a different accessibility..

> my mind, for reasons I won't go into, but what about Battersea,
> etc, etc, etc, ?

Battersea was poor in my opinion.. The most striking venue possibly.. but I left feeling he went through the motions.. maybe sometimes they don't work do they. The best were probably:

Smiths in Brixton October 86
Morrissey at Fisnbury Park 1992 (Madstock.. I have met a skinhead girl who was there that day.. it's an interesting 'clash'!!)
Morrissey at the Forum.. 99 (life changing moment from that gig)
Radiohead in July, 2000, Paris
Placebo Halloween 2000 at Brixton
Blur Astoria Fan Club gig ( I blagged my way in) about 97
Lowgold 9/3/2001 at ULU.. Last minute gig.. was just one of 'those nights'
Damned at the Forum about 1999 (just a laugh)
Embrace at Glastonbury 1998 for a light in the rain..

Although loads of lesser nights have equally been as entertaining.. I never fail not to have a good time at any gig we go to..

> I went to Hartlepool too and loved it, may I ask why you did?

Left Sheffield around 10a.m, hotel bar and pubs around Hartlepool from around 1p.m, taxi to a fantastic gig (even got to grab hold of Mozzer's hand), taxi back to hotel to get changed and then out into Hartlepool till 3a.m Sunday morning. And that's the edited version!

Ummmmmm....too many. Let's see. Radiohead at The Greek last year, Jane's Addiction at the Palladium in 91, Bauhaus at The Palladium like two years ago? Morrissey-The Forum 91', Hollywood Bowl 92', San Diego 92 Halloween, and The Palladium 01'-first night. What else....? The Pixies 91' Palladium, can't forget Depeche at The Rose Bowl 88'-my first concert. Umm...Suede at The Hollywood Colonade whatever year their first lp came out, James at The Palace in 93'?, The Cure Long Beach 92'.

Best Gig

M O R R I S S E Y at The Paramount in Seattle, WA in '91 ... I was right up front in the orchestra/mosh pit (it WAS Seattle in the Grunge 90's) during "Last of the Famous International Playboys" and somehow my shoe came off... someone threw it onstage and Moz danced all around it- I jumped up and grabbed his hand and Alain Whyte tossed my shoe back to me...

THAT was a cool gig...
