A request for some Smiths rarities (mostly BBC).

Hello all. I am looking for the following Smiths rarities. Most of them were uploaded to this forum at some point but all the links appear to have expired:

Shakespeare's Sister (Live at the Palladium, Hollywood)
Rubber Ring/Asleep
The Boy With The Thorn In His Side (Single Version)
I Don't Owe You Anything (BBC)

Also, if anyone has great quality copies of the BBC versions of "Half A Person," "How Soon Is Now?" and "London," please pass them along. Mine sound a little hissy and/or have tape noise. (Perhaps all copies are like that. I don't know.) Better versions of "Pretty Girls Make Graves" and version 2 of "Reel Around The Fountain" would be welcome as well. I only have them from the BBC radio documentary.

Speaking of, was the BBC "How Soon Is Now?" identical to the studio version? It certainly sounds like it, to my ears.

Has there ever been a decent quality release of the BBC "Wonderful Woman"? All the ones I have heard sound dreadful.

Many thanks in advance. I will be glad to readily dispatch any rare tracks I have for your troubles.

I've wondered that about myself. Everytime I've asked for what I most want, the Hultsfred 2004 concert footage that includes the Let Me Kiss You, people suddenly fall ill and so can't upload, but then I see them posting elsewhere and weeks go by and I am left wondering, what the silence is really covering up. I wonder if mentioning the Let Me Kiss You from that concert is some terrible stigma on me.

Have I committed a faux pas?

I've gone to your site and looked for it, several times and I just looked for it again, and I can't see it. Do you have a direct link to it you would post? I looked and looked and I see a concert from Sweden but it isn't the video footage from 2004 Hultsfred. I used the search feature and got this message: "No videos tagged “jun 19 - hultsfred (sweden) hultsfred festival”" How do I find it?
EDITING HERE:

Oop. I just found it. I only needed to scroll down further. lol. Geez. I'm laughing at how obtuse I've been. Thank you :]

Editing again: I am still looking for the visual aspect of this concert, but I am half relieved to have this audio of the entire concert:D. Thank you drifter.

Anyone have the other BBC stuff? Namely:

I Don't Owe You Anything (has this ever been booted?)

Looking for upgrades of these BBC sessions. I've denoted details of my current sources in parentheses:

Half A Person (128 kbps, hissy)
How Soon Is Now? (128 kbps, hissy)
London (128 kbps, hissy)
Pretty Girls Make Graves (from "Smiths at the Beeb" documentary)
Reel Around The Fountain (from "Smiths at the Beeb" documentary)
Wonderful Woman (awful quality)

And, of lesser priority:

William It Was Really Nothing (128, tinny)
Nowhere fast (128, tinny)

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by the BBC versions. Maybe I know them as something else, but I don't have anything in my collection labeled as such. I'm guessing it's live material, not officially released?

Am I the only one who doesn't know what these takes are?

The Smiths did several sessions for BBC radio, for both the John Peel and David Jensen programs. Some of these tracks were released on "Hatful Of Hollow," "Louder Than Bombs" and the "Last Night I Dreamt..." single, but others have never seen commercial release.

Here is a complete list of the BBC sessions and where you can find them:

By my reckoning, there's a total of 23 BBC session tracks then (?).

Would be nice if they were all compiled together, either officially or unofficially. Wondering if one of our experts here has them all? I of course have the ones from Hatful and Bombs, but not the ones from the Last Night... single or the unreleased ones.

I have them all now, but the sound quality varies a bit. I'd be happy to upload a complete collection, though. (I don't count the two Sandie Shaw tracks, as Morrissey was not a part of those.)

Here are the tracks I have, with the sources denoted:

31 May 1983 - John Peel Show
Handsome Devil [Hatful Of Hollow]
Reel Around The Fountain [Hatful Of Hollow]
Miserable Lie [Peel Sessions EP, mp3 @ 256 kbps]
What Difference Does It Make? [Hatful Of Hollow]

4 July 1983 - David Jensen Show
These Things Take Time [Hatful Of Hollow]
You've Got Everything Now [Hatful Of Hollow]
Wonderful Woman [? bootleg, mp3 @ 128 kbps, poor quality]

September 1983 - David Jensen Show
Accept Yourself [Hatful Of Hollow]
I Don't Owe You Anything [ICA Rock Week 1983 bootleg, mp3 @ 128 kbps, poor quality]
Pretty Girls Make Graves [Smiths At The Beeb documentary, via Rare Tracks On Vinyl bootleg, mp3 @ 320 kbps]
Reel Around The Fountain [Smiths At The Beeb documentary, via Rare Tracks On Vinyl bootleg, mp3 @ 320 kbps]

21 September 1983 - John Peel Show
This Charming Man [Hatful Of Hollow] (A slight remix was on the This Charming Man CD single. I prefer the remix, as it sounds less bassy and more evenly balanced.)
Back To The Old House [Hatful Of Hollow]
This Night Has Opened My Eyes [Hatful Of Hollow/Louder Than Bombs]
Still Ill [Hatful Of Hollow]

9 August 1984 - John Peel Show
William It Was Really Nothing [Last Night... single, via Rare Tracks On Vinyl bootleg, mp3 @ 320 kbps]
Nowhere Fast [Last Night... single, via Rare Tracks On Vinyl bootleg, mp3 @ 320 kbps]
Rusholme Ruffians [Last Night... single, via Rare Tracks On Vinyl bootleg, mp3 @ 320 kbps]
How Soon Is Now? [Smiths At The Beeb documentary, via Rare Tracks On Vinyl bootleg, mp3 @ 320 kbps] (I'm still not convinced the BBC version wasn't just the standard studio version, slightly remixed.)

17 December 1986 - John Peel Show
Is It Really So Strange? [Louder Than Bombs]
London [? bootleg, mp3 @ 128 kbps]
Half A Person [? bootleg, mp3 @ 128 kbps]
Sweet And Tender Hooligan [Louder Than Bombs]

Ooh, very nice! I'll be interested to see if any of these are better quality than what I have.

Thanks!

This version of "I Don't Owe You Anything" is quite a bit better than the one I have, although it's been NoNoised or something, so I'll need to EQ it a bit.

On that note, I notice some of these tracks end abruptly, have talking at the end, etc. If anyone would like my own edited versions of the tracks in question (with fades and such), don't hesitate to ask.

Similarly, the tracks from the "Last Night..." single are presented here from the "Smiths at the Beeb" documentary. If anyone wants the clean CD versions, let me know. I also have a good quality version of "London" without the fade-in, and "Half A Person" without the talking.

Er yeah!! It's my lucky day, two really kind soloers! Please post your versions that are superior to the ones French Boy posted! I'll happily upload a 'best of' compilation at the end, to save you the time of uploading them all yourself!
