Default Punk is dead & Indie is dead.

I don't half @#!!!ing hate these kids who go around describing @#!!!e like Blink 182, Greenday and the rest of those monkeys as punk. Bands were getting slagged of in 1982 for making punk music, and here we are in the 21st century and misguided fools still go around saying punk is alive. I wish they would get there own terminology, bet they've never heard of The Ruts, The Adverts or Subway Sect.

And as for Indie bands nowadays do me a favour and change the record, talk about predictable, eg Stereophonics.

    Default yeah but...

punk will always be around...you just gotta look for it,like all good music... greenday etc isn't all that's being described as punk these days...i agree with you that it's sad when a lot of young ''punks'' don't know anything about the early, classic stuff but they're young and stupid just like everyone else was at one time...

What exactly is punk? It never seems to be consistent and it often confuses me.

Yes, I sort of agree.. but it can be a lot worse... 'Hear say' for f*cking example.. Now that really irritates me..

Indie is still there.. Just check out the softer side (e.g Turin Brakes, Cinerama) of it for the moment.. But I did buy 'You're Living All Over Me' By Dinosaur Junior the other day, and that shook my world again (I had it on vinyl years ago).. Some of those songs are nakedly RAW!

The RUTS were Gods by the way.. H-Eyes!

There are those of us who believe that punk is really a kind of philosophy regarding music. Conceptual ideas can't die.

ha. good point. But .. has punk ever been really "alive"? The real punk to me is still Sid Vicious ... and he didn't survive it.

    Sadly.

Well these people are not punk and if anyone calls them such, they are idiots. I do know there are some good punk bands out now. However, as I am not really a fan of the punk movement, I can't recall names. I would recommend you pick up The Big Takeover however which reviews alot of indie and punk stuff. Anything reviewed by Jack Rabid is reliable. (this magazine can be found in Borders in alot of places but can be found in alot of small record stores in NYC in that area.

are you seriously grouping Stereophonics under the term "indie"?
