Default Did Morrissey write the new song for REM.... ? ,,,,

In the UK, REM are just about to release a new song which appears to be quite good. A rather tuneful song which has all the makings of a Morrissey classic. In fact, I mention this because I wonder what this song is really about. The song is just like a Morrissey song - both in terms of the vocal arrangments and the chorus. This must be some kind of tribute song - it's just uncanny. I wonder whether Morrissey has heard it.

I was wondering about it because it reminded me of Reader me Author with the "they won't see you cry...."

But I only heard it once, and the search for lyrics went cold.

are you talking about "Sugar"? I heard a song that had that name or something like that as the title. It didn't really remind me of Morrissey although I only caught the half end. It reminded me more of "The Great Beyond" single they themselves put out not too long ago. I liked it but I hope the other songs are more experiemental like how Up was. Up is my favorite REM album.

The lyrics during the chorus are as follows:

    That sugar cane
    That tasted good
    That cinnamon
    That's Hollywood
    Come on, come on
No one can see you try

    Me neither.

The strings in the beginning lend a "Shiny Happy People" feel to it - in fact, it reminds me of their "Out of Time"-era sound.

I really liked it; I wasn't impressed with "Up" at all - didn't seem like prime REM.

    "Imitation of life."

I think it has to do with the fakeness of Hollywood or something.

Well, I do appreciate your comments. The arrangement sounded quite similar - the same beats and chorus arrangment etc.
