Default I know it is very early to ask about summer

...however, what are people doing these coming summer hols, any plans? going anywhere nice? meeting anyone nice?

I'm having 2 and a half months off Im off to Liverpool for a few days with my mate and we're also off to Devon for the beach . No doubt I will be coming to Manchester for a bit. Then there will be various days out.

I'm tempted to keep fit and do some walks in the Yorkshire Dales...mmmm...I wonder how long that idea will last?

Anyway have fun whatever you are doing and whoever/ whatever you are doing it with.

I get nearly 5 months off for summer! It's absolutely ridiculous isn't it?
It's going to be a very long summer and I'm going to be skint for most of it! Which means i'll have to go through the same thing as I do every year of looking for a job, and usually end up with somet really crap (was cleaning last year with 6.30am start). Do really want to go on holiday (to germany) though, havent been on holiday for 3 years and that was for like 4 days.

I'll be seeing Moz a couple times on the US tour and appearing in a production of Bye Bye Birdie.

I'm graduating in June so i'll be job hunting or hopefully starting work. There is absolutely nothing in my line of work in the whole of the north west so wish me luck.

I know I'm employable, you don't have to tell me...

And there's nothing for you? That's awful! I stick up for the NHS always and forever, but how the f**k can the government not provide enough money for you to get a job?

I know, don't get me started! Something will come it might just not be right away. I would move anywhere in the country if I didn't have any committments. One colleague on my course is thinking of leaving her 3 kids with her ex-husband and moving away to get a job - what a dilema.

because the trusts up and down the this country, are trying to stick to budgets and government guidelines, as well as pouring away money on temporary staff, from expensive agencies. Patients don't help, by not turning up for appointments, money and time down the drain, for medical and admin staff.

the NHS is full of 'too many chiefs and not enough indians'..... intimated, overworked, bullied staff.

here in the states, the vast majority only get up to two weeks total off of work, per year, for vacation. though many places also allow you to add sick days. this is nothing compared to the time off most people get all over the world. most Americans don't understand how miserable they are. they think they are in America so it must be the best country in the world. lets get medicated!!! or accept it as life. slowly their families erode, their happiness is nonexistent, and their health is gone. But damn it, this is still the best country in the world. they don't realize. they don't realize, because they are so ignorant.

I hate living in this country. it's the lifestyle i don't find appealing. can't americans stop trying to be the 'best'? like chill out. we are destroying ourselves and the world while we're at it. we get nothing out of it, only the rich and elite do. the ignorant are so easily tricked, and those of us who know are forced to join along or suffer harsher consequences. i dream of moving to certain European countries, but it's hard for an american to find work elsewhere--our asking price is too high. we're not 'cheap' enough. No one leaves America, people come here. Oh the american dream, what a sham you are!!!

edit: oh i know this is a controversial subject, but i do think immigration control needs to be drastically tightened in the US...i know people come here looking for a better life, but what about the people already here who do not have a good life? we can't just screw American workers just for the sake of a naive hippie view of unity in the world. the workers in the states have been suffering, with long hours, low pay, and no vacation, and illegal immigration certainly does not help...on top of that it does cost the tax payer.

but in the end, it comes down to this, capitalism's growth is coming to an end. it has conquered the world, and converted the majority of its inhabitants as consumers-workers. population is so high, that it is destroying the environment--so we can't go that way anymore. at the point capitalism's climax, i hope technology will hand us a sci-fi utopia, or i hope it all crumbles down and leaves us with a 'simple' life.

America the empire is certainly crumbling. there are some pros and cons to this. and who knows what is to happen once global growth is no longer a possibility. unfortunately, there will always be humans with a will to power...and the cycle begins all over again.

sorry for my rant against capitalism and the American Dream. sometimes i like it, sometimes i hate it.

Midwives are also (unlike nurses) autonomous practitioners and can practice independantly. It is almost unheard of however of any midwife in the Uk being able to insure her practice due to the high levels of litigation in obstetrics. This again limits the amount of midwives who feel that they are able to practice in this way (I for one would love to be an independant midwife but am frightened that practicing without insurance would be tantamount to professional suicide). This ultimately restricts the choices that women are able to make with regard to their care during what may be one of the most important times of their life. It is so sad, especially when you consider that all GP's are able to find affordable insurance!

Sorry about my last post, I forgot this was a thread about what people are doing over the summer. I am going camping in Wales with my family and before that I am combining a work trip to a hospital in Gibraltar with a holiday (I am going with my dear friend). And then I will be unemployed.

I'll graduate on 2nd June, after that I'll just work the whole summer (hopefully I will find a job... ) and, if everything goes well, will move to Cardiff at the end of the summer
