    Default Ruffian........

Did you get to she the Dandies?

I went last night and I thought they sounded awful.

Not a good gig. Courtney's voice sounded shot or perhaps it was just the poor sound desk. His mic kept cutting out.

Sounded like too much touring.....too many dates not enough rest.

Hi W-Girl.. I have to laugh.. my journey on Saturday was like that film 'Trains Planes and Automobiles'.. So, I consider myself lucky to get there at all, eventually stumbling into the Astoria at 21:00.. like, 45 minutes into their set..

So, downed Vodka shooters (2.50 a throw.. try it.. it works) and Stella (which crushes my head. its a chemical thing I am sure) to make up for lost time.. and then we watched and yes, I agree with you.. Not a brilliant performance.. the vocals were monitone and sluggish.. and my perception they were too stoned (apart from Zia who seemed cool) to really be into it was probably not to 'off the mark'..

So Sunday was not any better? So your view is probably the case.. end of the tour 'blues'.. and a little bit of exhaustion thrown in.. which is a shame because when they are fresh and up for it, they do rock! Did they do 'The Last Time' by the Stones as an encore on Sunday?

If you don't mind me asking.. Where do you come from then? I thought you were a Midlander for some reason...

Stoned! perhaps your right. The whole performance seemed soporific.

They did play the "last time" and Courtney did an acoustic solo of a Kirsten Hersh(?) song, I didn't get the title.

I am also the owner a car.

..which is sad to admit.. I was with an American Guy, flew in from Ohio to see the band.. and we met up.. he had seen them 10 of times and thought is just 'so-so'.. but the biggest gig he had seen outside of the States..

Like to have seen that hersch song played.. I just bought the new Kristen Hersch album on Saturday.. its very good.. all this low-fi indie.. I am sitting here playing the Tindersticks first album now which is fairly cool and moody....

So am I.. but you can't do vodka Cranberry shooters then!!

Manics on Friday (mainly for 'My Vitriol' supporting) at Brixton.. and Starsailor at ULU on Saturday.. are you going to either?

That song is called "Your Ghost".It is on Kristen Hersh's album
"Hips And Makers" , and Michael Stipe did some vocals
    with her on that song.
I too heard Courtney do that song, but I didn't much care
for his interpretation of it.....not that I'm a great fan
of Kristen Hersh....but that song is good.

Thanks eventheodd, you're a helpful source of trivia!!!

'Your Ghost' is a beautiful song.. some of the Hersch stuff I have heard is really good.. That distinctive and acidic vocal! I had a good single with a track called 'Shake' on it.. and that's good too..

Can't imagine what Courtney's version would do for it though.. It's definitely a 'girl ' song really! But I'd like to have seen it live!

    See you mate!

yeah that song is really good-especially with the Stipe backup vocals. I really like the mood of Kristen Hersh and the lyrics and music of her stuff (bith solo and with the Throwing Muses) but there is something about her voice alone that irritates me. I'm always more tempted to listen to girls with soft singing voices just be nature or something. But I know it;s good; it's just not for me most of the time.
