Default Spend Spend Spend - Edinburgh

    Book and Lyrics by
    Steve Brown and Justin Greene
    Music by Steve Brown
Based on the book by Viv Nicholson and Stephen Smith

Evening Standard Theatre & Critic’s Circle Awards for
    BEST MUSICAL 1999

At the Church Hill Theatre, Morningside Road, Edinburgh

    11 - 17 February 2007

This musical celebrates the rags-to-riches and back to rags story of Viv Nicholson - the working-class Yorkshire lass who, in 1961, won a fortune on the Football Pools. The story includes everything from comedy to tragedy. A musical score full of memorable tunes and sharp, witty lyrics. This, together with the modern lesson in morality, that money does not necessarily always bring you either love or happiness, makes for a warm, nostalgic musical with Yorkshire directness and grit, that follows the northern musical tradition of shows like “Billy Elliot” and “Blood Brothers”.

Yes, saw this in the list today. I shall be in attendance. A night out in Morningside - im always happy to lower the tone, especially in veh veh posh morningside.

Most importantly, are there any decent boozers in Morningside??, minus the Canny Man. I think a bevvie in Tollcross is the most sensible option here.

Should we arrange a night for all the Moz apostles in the central belt to attend on the same night?

    No.

Only joking, but I've already booked our tickets for the final night Saturday 17th performance.

Also, keep Monday night free just in case I win you tickets for the Celtic play, they are giving away a couple of pairs of tickets in the Evening News!

My mother was with me on the same labour ward as Viv Nicholson, and I was born and raised (for the 1st few years) a few hundred yards away from where she lived.

(If that's my claim to fame, I'll give up now!)

How was the show, btw? i think it's had good reviews, hasn't it? not seen it myself, but, needless to say, my mother has!

it's brilliant, if anyone gets a chance to see it, just go! It was just so well done. I could never do it just with my vocabulary, but it takes you on Vivs journey through laughter & tears & back again.

I'm sure communication via the phone would have better results, if even only slightly. Was it any good?

Oh well! Missing out has become the norm for me these days.

Chased up the phone today and have been promised it wont take much longer than a week before it's returned to me. So, we need to arrange a meet soon. Lets do it in private! I vote we use email.

I'm all for using email, it's so much more personal & I hate it when people just use these forums as a private message boards, making crap talk & blocking up the boards with their trivial off topic rubbish!

I spoke to Ian last night, he was wondering when the next Edi Smiths night is going to happen?

Oh & he was concerned about your love-life for some reason?

He's got a trip to Milan sorted & was wondering if you had too, I told him probably not but if they get to the final then who knows?

Well I can't sit here all day, I'll await the email.

    love
