What music that is a complete diversion from Morrissey/the smiths do you listen to?

lately i've been getting into one chord drone type music....

Neu! and japancakes are a favorite.

i even loved it so much that I started playing ambient type pieces and
recording mp3s of them...lol! talk about poetic justice for a former anti-electronic person.

(if anyone's interested, i'll post them somewhere..i think it makes them sad to sit on my hard drive and only be listened to by me)

oh yeah, i still love rock, too..is that OK? or should I run the entire indie gamut and end up hating everything?

Old 97's
Bare Jr.
Wilco
Angry Johnny and the Killbillies
Gladys
Stranglmartin
etc...

Basically a lot of that alt.country/rock/noise stuff that I never thought I'd get into. I'd avoided American music for a while, but I was opened up to a lot of it recently, and it's quite good - different, but good.

Grandaddy! They are so good. I saw them in New York in October and Manchester in January. How can you hate a band that places plants in front of them on stage to create a "forest" feeling?

I like them ever much so.

The biggest departure from Morrissey...

This album I bought a few years ago called "Southpaw Grammar" was a complete departure from Morrissey. It sounded like Nirvana, only worse. I don't know who the artist was (or was pretending to be).

In that order. They're from California but they have a larger following in the UK. In Manchester, the crowds sang almost each song word for word...with their dopey accent of course.

I love all music that isn't crap (hehe). No seriously, I like classicaly, jazz, tecnho, and ambient among others. i have pretty eclectic tastes-from siom and garfunkel to dj food. as long as it is good, the style/genre of the music doesn't matter.

As a side note, I went to a friend's senior flute recital yesterday (she's amazing as a floutist) and heard some really wonderful classical pieces. I also love that mixture between indie and alternative and classical-like orchestrated stuff (i.e. Jeremy Enigk's Return of the Frog Queen)

As much as I try not to read/reply to greasetea posts, this one caught my eye after listening to Grandaddy's sophtware slump album last night at a friend's house (I want to get it now ASAP!) It is really great and I definitely agree with what you had to say (And you sounded very intelligent this time btw-a very nice surprise) but I think Moz would like him. I think Moz might see the qualities we have seen.

Grandaddy- A-OK

Firstly, Grandaddy isn't a "him"- they're a "they! I caught a Grandaddy show this summer in Chicago (they played on a bill with Bright Eyes) and it was superb! I bought an EP and the Sophtware Slump album on the spot and they have been in heavy rotation for months. I had hoped to catch their show during the CMJ Festival this October, but my plans didn't allow this to happen.

Grandaddy'll be coming to a town near you soon, if you're in the States. In addition to some solo dates, they'll be opening for Coldplay, if Coldplay actually go on with their tour. This is looking doubtful, though.

Grandaddy is a terrific live band and I'm looking forward to hearing them in concert again soon! If my word isn't enough to have you checking them out, how about this pic of David Bowie at one of their NY gigs?

grandaddy are great, but morrissey has awful taste

i really doubt morrissey would like grandaddy, though they are great. morrissey tends to like crap. always has.

Yay! See Grandaddy is band-tastic

I fell in love with their "Crystal Lake" video and that's when I pursued them. I'm telling everyone, you will not be dissapointed by them. I especially love Hewlitt's Daughter..........ah.

I'm so happy now...it'll pass.

Coldplay? They should tour with someone decent. I would much rather see them with Bright eyes as you did.
