The career-spanning collection features 644 tracks

Depeche Mode have announced the release of a massive download-only "box set".

The career-spanning retrospective, appropriately titled 'The Complete Depeche Mode', is available now for download on US iTunes.

Following on the heels of a more modest 'Best Of' collection released last November, the mega-retrospective contains 644 tracks.

The set features all 11 of their studio albums, all of their singles and B-sides, and two live albums, as well as rare and previously unreleased material.

In addition to album tracks it features rare and deleted recordings, 19 digital-only remixes, and previously unreleased rehearsal recordings. It comes packaged with a 62-page downloadable booklet featuring images by renowned photographer Anton Corbijn.

Depeche Mode released their first single in 1981, and have spent more than 400 combined weeks on the UK charts.

Of the unreleased material are there any songs that you would recommend?

About posting something that had been posted already, I may start another thread about it in a couple of weeks.

I browsed through the selection of songs and mostly it seems pretty worthless-- the extra "Album Only" tracks that you have to buy the whole set to download, I mean. However, there is one song, "But Not Tonight (Dance Remix)" (or something to that effect), in the "Deleted" section which is worth the entire asking price. It was only available on the Sire Records U.S. twelve-inch single of "But Not Tonight" and in my opinion rates as one of DM's best-ever tracks.

Would I recommend getting it for that remix alone? No. Not quite. But the fact that for a moment I seriously thought of paying $170 for that one song alone ought to say something in its favor (or about my obtuseness perhaps). If I didn't have the vinyl version stuck in a closet somewhere I'd probably go through with it.

The white label remix of "Little 15" is pretty amazing too.

Of course I'm speaking as someone who has all the other tracks anyway. If you're not a huge fan already, and don't own a lot of the B-sides and remixes, I'd recommend it. DM produced a ton of hidden gems on their singles, mainly in the 1980s.

    Hey,

    Much obliged for this information.
I've been a fan of theirs since 1990.
I met them in NYC on 10/18/05. Best b-day present ever.

I do have some singles and remixes but not the ones mentioned. Thanks. I've been resisting downloading the iTunes player again, because the itunes store has been too much bother in the past, but I think I have to see which of these are available as single songs.

    thanks for the recommendations.

    Hey,
    I love your alias, btw.

Yes, I think so. It was the release date of Playing the Angel. I waited outside of Tower Records in NYC. It was also my birthday so, it was like a great pressie. A girl in line I became friends with, Merva, has a b-day the same day too! We laughed so hard in that line. She told Dave and the guys it was our b-days and they said happy b-day to us. I just blushed and looked at the ground but, I won't ever forget it. Plus, I got his (Dave's), Martin's and Fletch's signatures on my cd/dvd. I shook each of their hands and told them how they've been a musical influence to me and I said God Bless You to each of them. I hope as a grown adult, I didn't sound too immature or cheesy. I will never sell my signed cd nor forget that birthday ever.

After we met them, I went to Merva's party and didn't arrive back in Jersey until 4am. Needless to say, I took "another" "sick" day off from work. lOl
