Default Unicycles and those who ride them

What do you think of unicycles and people who ride them?

On my drive in to work, I regularly see this guy, who is about 16-17 yo, I'm guessing, riding one. I assume he is on his way in to school.

Normally, one only sees a "unicyclist" at a circus or comedy act or some such activity.

Why would someone use a unicycle as their mode of transportation? A regular bicycle would be more efficient and safer too, I think.

This guy must be a character of some sort. I don't think one rides a "uni" unless one is trying to get attention in some sort of way. He may be improving his skills by using it as his mode of transport, but the end result is still to get attention somewhere.

    That's all for now.

Please ask him and report back here with pictures and interview.

btw, I don't know about efficiency... only one tire to go flat, and the unicycle fits in a smaller space when he gets where he's going. On the other hand he can't tie anything to his handlebars...

Seriously though, you started this and now you have to tell us what is going on.

I agree a smaller unit to park when done, but he has to peddle constantly to get where he wants to go. The person on the 2-wheeler can coast a lot of time. Plus when you have to stop at a signal, those uni folk keep sitting on the thing peddling back and forth to keep balanced; the lazy two wheeler gets off and stands on one leg or two and sometimes lights up a smoke.

Well if he has to be constantly moving, maybe he's doing it to burn calories.

My wife used to ride one, then again she is exceedingly smallish.

She was also trained in the art by two aging queens named Chip and Pootsie...no really.
