Default Ten years later... how are they doing?

These artists released critically acclaimed albums in 1996 and they also released an album this year. Who do you feel has fared the best over the last decade?
If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.

    The ones I care for:
Beck: hasn't really grown better. The Information is a bit weak, IMO.

Belle & Sebastian: I wouldn't say they've grown, but surely maintained their strength!

Cat Power: she definitely has grown and is changed.

    Divine Comedy: maintained strength

Pearl Jam: No Code was one hell of ana lbum, but the s/t one wasn't a change - still heavily rocking, but no good for me.

So I went for Cat Power...

    (oh great poll too!)

I don't have any of those albums and don't feel like I'm missing anything.

It is a great poll. Thank you. I went with Cat Power.

I doubt if very many people here care about Snoop Dogg but I happened to see part of his new video when I was looking for videos on Yahoo, and it was really the worst thing I've ever heard from him. I think his 1996 thing was pretty bad too, though. He really coasts on the classic stuff he did with Dr Dre in the early 90's, and that was just 2 records, one of which he was a guest on, though he did pretty much steal the show. The Chronic and Doggystyle were both classics of the genre, though, and everything since then has been pretty bad.

I've heard Jay Z's new record and it isn't bad, but I really only liked the Black Album and mostly because of 99 Problems which I think is a classic record.

This is a really interesting topic, thank you. I have to confess, I havn't voted as I havn't heard any of the newer albums I have a major musical backlog at the moment, which I am trying to sort out with my ipod I can feel a biut of a spending spree coming on in January in HMV, so maybe I'll catch up then! I should point out I do have new CDs, just none of the ones mentioned in the poll. Honest...

Where's Soundgarden and Audioslave? They are pretty much the same band after all only the lead singers makes the band!

An interesting topic in the off-topic section for a change.
(Though this topic would probably be better at home in the other music-section).

I think it is a fact that most artists release their best work within 5 years of their debut, so it is nearly impossible to improve after 10 years.

But I think Divine Comedy and Belle and Sebastian have maintained standard pretty much. They are still good, though not essential anymore I suppose.

What is remarkable is that they sound (as in sound quality) so much better than 10 years ago, but then that's a meney thing I'm sure.

Could also have added The Beautiful South to this poll
(if had had more slots or could have pre-empted another band ):

    Blue Is the Colour (1996)
    Superbi (2006)

Unfortunately, I can't comment on this at the moment, as I haven't heard Superbi yet (but i will soon now - yes, very soon ). Maybe others have some thoughts.

    ---------------------------------------------------

In the poll, I voted Belle & Sebastian: The Life Pursuit is one of my favorite B&S albums to date. Great material.

Johan, you thought my New Year's Eve Thread dull? Well, maybe you could tell all of us what you are doing that night and spice it up some...

Beautiful South released first single in 1988, so they can't be on this poll. IMHO Blue is the Colour isn't their best album.

^?? maybe i somehow don't understand the poll... but Beck, The Divine Comedy, Pearl Jam, and Prince (and maybe others) all released material before 1996. 1996 was not the debut year for any of these artists either.

That's right NOIP, I was rambled.
Mmmmmm unfortunately wasn't convinced Beautiful South's album was notable enough among others.

yeah, poll only allows for ten total, i know... damn those limitations!

Another add could have been Placebo:

    Placebo (1996)
    Meds (2006)
