Ok, but don't lose your faith. Take the gun wherever you go. Maybe you have some luck and find them eventually.

Dave Matthews Band and Moby do not fit in the same sentence or category. Moby is an intelligant musician . and if you are just thinking of him as mainstream crap then I highly disagree. He's not even mainstream for crying out loud. I mean dave mathews sucks but i just can't see your Moby point! Why? have you heard Play all the way through? have you read his booklets for his albums? Come on! This is a very intelligent guy we are talking about here. Certainly no Dave Matthews.

moby is not mainstream? my god, what the hell do you consider mainstream? i'm sorry, but if vh1/mtv/and the rolling stone is raving about you then i consider you to be mainstream. oh, and you're right, moby doesn't fit in the same category as dave matthews. i think moby fits in better with the backstreet boys and n'sync.

well seeing as how I do not really have a clue what MTV or VHI thinks maybe i shouldn't have even said anything but Moby has never exactly seemed like top 40 stuff to me. Backstreet Boys and N sync though? Forgive me if I say that sounds really quite whacked to me. Moby atleast has some intelligence and has more meaningful stuff to put out.

Ok-so people that have listened to the full albums not just the radio andhave read Moby's monologues back me up here because I know I'm not the only one who could feel this way.

    Kirstie,
I'm inclined to support you because I generally like you, but I don't know who Moby is. Sorry.

    So what?

    That's such a silly statement!

First of all, the Backstreet Boys, et al, are the result of a very deliberate plan to create a "boy band," complete with prefab style, songs, moves and attitudes.

    Moby is an individual.

Here's another thing that separates Moby from the Boys: he has a great knowledge and appreciation for music. All kinds. And he's been kicking around in various areas of the music scene for A LONG TIME - long before VH-1 and Rolling Stone jumped on the bandwagon. Those boy bands were tailored for that.

To lump him with the likes of those no-talent, in-it-for-the-money puppets is just plain ignorant.

That's rubbish. Mainstream isn't always the same as mainstream. Sometimes underground happens to become "mainstream" - meaning big sales and press coverage - because a lot of people happen to like it. And what is the artist supposed to do then? Go back to his garage or stop doing music altogether just to avoid being on Mtv?

Don't believe everything Mtv tells you.

i think that mainstream is so much rated anymore by the popularity of an artists work so much as the mentality behind it. that and how easily your music is cloned, boy bands and pop princesses are interchangable regardless of people's personal allegiences. moby and dave mathews band much to their credit have their own unique sounds if nothing else. and better yet they entertain you with their music instead of distracting you from it with looks and dance breaks. that being said i still cant stand dave mathews band.

It appears to be my good fortune that i've not heard of Dave Matthews, however with Moby i believe that you are correct.
Moby has produced some striking and beautiful music. His views and politics and politics do fit neatly into MTV's agenda.
That's not his fault , MTV has to justify it's existence every now and then, besides how many Britney, Christina and Lopez
Videos can you play on your loop. I don't think he is MAINSTREAM , he is vegan and committed to animal rights - something
I've never seen MTV promote and besides do they REALLY back those Eco ethics (those silly little trailers promote the station NOT
the forests or the O zone). Moby being played on MTV gives it credibility.
So listen to PLAY again or "God moving over the face of the waters" and think again, and don't let MTV ruin it for you.

..i mean these are morrissey fans circa 2001 we're talking about here, a far cry from the tasteful,well-read fans of the eighties and early nineties..

they champion non-sense like deftones, limp bizkit, and stereophonics, and of course continue to worship depeche mode, all the while criticizing Moby? it's absurd really......but here we are.
