Blackhat

These american and far east collaborations when it comes to films are usually very bad but this one is ok although I lost interest toward the end. It is about hackers and this film initially try to visualise a hacker attack. It is too long and it ends like a typical action based film with a final battle in the middle of a public festival happening and that we have seen so many times before. The best thing with this film is the many faces that were new to me.

Tin Burton's film about artist Margaret Keane and her husband who claimed to have painted her big eyed children. Brilliant acting and lovely on the eye with bright colour all through it and a very authentic feel from the old times. Terence Stamp plays the critic who enraged Margaret's mythomania husband.

Brightest Star

A story based in NYC about young love issues and what matters in life. This is a slightly more grown up version of a guy meets girl and maybe it reflects the young people of today who tend to complicate things in a complicated world. I liked the feel of this film and it even made me laugh here and there despite it not being a comedy at all.

White God

This film became a sensation at this years Cannes Festival and I really understand why as this is one of those films that will probably leave an impact on you as a viewer for the rest of your life. This is based in Hungary with hungarian actors but is a Hungarian, German and Swedish production. I thought they had stopped making this sort of film so this really stands out a lot in the modern film times we live in.

The performance of the twin dogs Luke and Body gave them a Palm Dog at the Cannes Festival and as you watch this you realise how much work there must have been behind the dog scenes. The young girl in the story is amazing and I suspect we will see more of her in the future.

A film like "Amores Perros" became a huge favourite for many people but this film is on another level for me. If you have a hard time watching animals in distress then this might be hard to stomach but there is no doubt that the film deserved all the attention it got at this years Cannes Festival.

Mad Max: Fury Road
Absolutely horrible. Felt like I'd been dragged through hell and back. No stars whatsoever...

I Am Legend
I meant to see this when it came out 8 years ago, but never did. It was on television recently. DEPRESSING. I like Will Smith, though, so I'll give it 1 star (and a half) for acting alone.

A Pigeon Sat On a Branch Reflecting On Existence

Swedish director Roy Andersson had huge success with his latest art film at the Venice film festival. I call his films art film as they are like a painting with moving and talking characters as Roy Andersson shoots all scenes with one camera that never moves. It is true that he stole the idea from some french film maker and it's easy to see that Roy Andersson is one of few communists left in this world as he time and time again comes back to the same old topics of how people are victims of the modern world and life in general.

His films makes me laugh but at the same time it gives me stomach ache and that is what Roy Andersson wants to create. He is opposed to modern life and solutions and prefers a bleak outlook on life and only sees the ugly things in people and companies and governments. In this one he attacks swedens finest mineral company Boliden only cause they sold a plant in his beloved communist brother country of Chile that was later accused of poisoning those that lived there.

He attacks the old sweedish warrior king Karl the 12th and depicts him as a weak homosexual and also depicts the english soldiers in Africa as people who burned people alive. I often wonder what he ever contributed himself to life and politics and with this one I felt he just repeats his old victim view on most things. This is for the communist people of the world who despise any sort of development and personal freedom and wants to see a system in place that tells us what to do every day of our lives.

Devil's Knot

I had missed this film for some reason and it was nice to see Colin Firth act in a film that wasn't silly from start to finish for a change. This is of course about the satanic cult murders of 1993 in Arkansas but as with the case itself the film is as confusing in many ways. A few things have happened since the film was made so I might read up a bit on that.

Vinny Jones in another action packed comedy that ridicules Lithuania and is sponsored by a lithuanian spring water company. It starts off quite well but goes completely out of hand for the last half an hour but if you like films that ridicule eastern Europe this is it cause like the awful "Eurotrip" this is filled with cliche's and stereotypes and the worst part probably is that they are all true. I doubt this was sanctioned by the Lithuanian tourist board but all the reputation you can get is as we know good in the end even if it is bad.

Johan Falk: Out of The Ashes

This is the first in a new series of swedish films about Johan Falk and more or less starts off where it ended a few years ago. This is based on the real story of a criminal who became an undercover agent under the codename of "Lisa" and now lives abroad with a new identity. It deals with the swedish criminal underworld of Gothenburg and in this film they deal with the mob in Latvia.

The dialogue isn't the best which is the problem I have with swedish productions. Also you will not see white swedish criminals sporting Adias clothes cause that is left for the thug gangs of the swedish ghettos. Seth Rydell is powerful as the leader of the criminal gang and he is of course Sweden's Bet 365 commercial face like Ray Winstone is in the UK.

This latest Johan Falk tries a bit too hard at times and also tries to create a bit of the mood among the police staff that we see in the swedish crime drama series "Beck" but you don't get the same depth and authencity. It was nice though to see this before it premieres on the 29th of June and it ends with a cliffhanger ahead of the follow up that is released soon.

http://www.swefilmer.com/palo-alto-2013/palo-alto-2013-video_18f7acf62.html

Palo Alto

Not to be confused with the older film "Palo Alto, CA" this is another film from the Coppola family who all seem to be involved in film.

I love films about bored american youngsters stuck somewhere between childhood and adulthood and this film is filled with a lot of things you normally see in this genre like smoking weed and partying and having sex at parties. Emma Roberts is great as April who has a crush on her football coach for whom she also babysits.

The film has these moments that are dreamy and existential and quite moody and under the layer of normal problems that young people go through a feeling of disaster looms. Val Kilmer plays some weird dude in this but it is his real life son Jack that leaves an impression as he sort of reminded me of the church killer Roof although it is his best friend Fred that is the weird and scary one in the film.

This is the first film that Gia Coppola wrote and directed and taking that into account this was quite impressive.

Danny-Collins-Movie.jpg

Entertaining, fun, family-friendly film. Great acting all around. Without a doubt Pacino will receive a few awards this season for this performance--perhaps even the Oscar.

Dirk Ohm The Illusionist That Disappeared

Based on the true story about the german illusionist who disappeared in the small village of Grong in northern Norway. It is about how he came to the village shortly after a young girl had gone missing and how he got involved in the search for her. It had a huge impact on him and he started to fall in love with the missing girl and this film goes from plain reality to his imaginary relationship with the missing girl.

This is not the first time I hear about germans going abroad and becoming somewhat weird and more or less losing it. Dirk was obviously suicidal as he decided to go to Norway where he paid for his hotel stays by performing. For some reason I loved this film and enjoyed the wonderful winter scenery of the area in what is quite a unique real life story in itself.

http://dreamfilmhd.org/movies/details/683243565-4-minute-mile/

4 Minute Mile

Films about runners are always good for some strange reason and this is no different. It is about the poor teenage boy Drew and his ability to run while at the same time fighting his problems at home with a brother who involves him in drug dealings. His neighbour is an old man who himself was a runner and who challenges the boy to develop as a runner and becomes his trainer.

Kim Basinger plays the mother but it is Richard Jenkins who plays the old man with alcohol problems who becomes the boys trainer who impressed me the most as he always tend to do in the films he features in. The love story is very cheesy as expected and the stadium announcer voice is just too much somehow and the boy playing the runner is not built as one at all and runs on his heels all through the film and on this level you simply do not see that but overall a film well worth seeing.

http://www.swefilmer.com/manglehorn-2014/manglehorn-2014-video_352eeeec6.html

Manglehorn

I doubt this film would have been as amazing if not for Al Pacino. He really lifts this story about a locksmith still looking for his sweetheart from his younger days. There are some amazing characters and scenes in this one and I loved every second of it. It deals with letting go and how we sometimes tend to compare what we had with what we have now and make it into something a bit better and bigger than it was.

http://dreamfilmhd.org/movies/details/683243536-the-next-three-days/

The Next Three Days

This had slipped under my radar and was a really nice surprise in many ways. Russell Crowe stars as the husband whose wife is jailed accused of murdering her boss. His desperation makes him start planning a way to get her wife out of jail and leave for another part of the world. The story is well written and even features some good music along the way. It is a classic cat and mouse movie but this one sticks out as it is so well made.

http://dreamfilmhd.org/movies/details/683243618-johan-falk-14-tyst-diplomati/

Johan Falk : Quiet Diplomacy

The follow up to what has now become more or less a series rather than separate films where the storyline always includes Seth Rydell and his criminal foes. In this one they deal with arab terrorists but in a way that they are not quite able to handle without it looking and feeling quite tacky. It is better than the previous episode but the dialogue slips here and there and when "comedian" Mikael Tornving with his pizza face tries to deliver dry oneliners and odd comments like a twenty something trying to be cool then it just feels silly.

http://www.swefilmer.com/the-face-of-an-angel-2014/the-face-of-an-angel-2014-video_912eda607.html

The Face of an Angel

This is about the Meredith Kercher halloween murder in Italy in 2007 but instead of concentrating fully on the events it is also a strange quite poetic and dreamy film with references to Dante. It is about a male documentary filmmaker who gets obsessed with the case but finds himself losing his inspiration to write about it and instead gets lost in drugs and dreams and all kinds of weird emotions.

Cannot say the acting is good in this one and Kate Beckinsale is just a pretty face delivering lines and there is also some young english girl in it that annoyed me somehow. Had the whole film been as good as the end then this could have been amazing but it is almost like a film about a film that never was and the best thing about it is when they celebrate Halloween playing Joy Division in the background.

http://www.swefilmer.com/steppeulven-2014/steppeulven-2014-video_cb6140314.html

Stepping Wolf

This danish/swedish drama loosely based on real events is about the danish singer and poet Eik Skaløe and his escapades in life with his girlfriend and his band and all the drugs he took while being based abroad trying to write. At times this is like a danish version of Trainspotting cause of how they try and visualise the impact that taking drugs have on the characters involved.

This is not a great film in any way but something about it made me like it and the best part of the film is the last 30 minutes when reality catches up with Eik when it comes to his troubled love life with his girlfriend Iben.

http://www.swefilmer.com/timbuktu-2014/timbuktu-2014-video_224b023cd.html

Timbuktu

Just a day after the ISIS terror attacks in various parts of the world I watched this about ISIS in Timbuktu and their impact on peoples daily lives there. This is a very realistic drama without drenching it in blood and all kinds of horrible things. This is more about the mental impact on living in the shadow of these senseless terrorists.

It is beautiful and sad at the same time and one of the most exotic films I have ever seen and one of the more touching episodes is when a local trusted man, probably the imam, tries to reason with the local ISIS leader and explain to him how they are not following islam. This came close somehow as I earlier today was near the local mosque where during the attacks around the world supporters of ISIS disturbed Friday prayers by storming the mosque and blaming the swedish born imam that he is not radical enough which became major news after similar events previously have not been mentioned by the media.

timbuktu seems really interesting and i will look into it. on a completely other note i watched the first adam west batman movie again and its brilliantly funny. anyone who thought the camp in the show was an accident then they should watch the movie. i turn and theres a nun, i turn again and theres a women pushing a baby carriage, i turn to my right and theres another nun, i turn back and theres a school field trip and i think "some days it just hard to get rid of a bomb". lol

http://www.swefilmer.com/selma-2014/selma-2014-video_cc0c32134.html

Selma

Human rights has been on the agenda in USA of late and this is about Martin Luther King and his fight for the right of black people to vote. The town of Selma became a stage for his fights for those rights where marches took place. This is a film with great acting and accompanied by what I call "The Hollywood Philarmonic Orchestra" cause no films can use violins like the american films to enhance a feeling of history and importance. Strong and powerful as you would expect from a film with famous actors and a powerful historic event.

http://www.swefilmer.com/rosewater-2014/rosewater-2014-video_5d97aa6b5.html

Rosewater

Honestly had no idea that Jon Stewart is a director as well and I haven't read about the background to this story based on a book, but I think he got involved in this story personally while doing his silly "news show". I wanted to watch this for the simple reason that one of my favourite actors, danish Kim Bodnia, is in it and he gave this film some sort of depth as the interrogator.

This film is both powerful and historic despite not many years have passed since this took place but it also struggles a bit along the way. In the end I felt pleased I had watched it but there is no doubt this could have become a fantastic film had the directing been a bit more serious as Stewarts comedy touch here and there just felt totally out of place.

the aviator. brilliant as always but rachel had never seen it and im reading fitzgeralds the love of the last tycoon which is very similar in many ways though its main character is actual based on a real person but not howard hughes

http://www.swefilmer.com/the-gunman-2015/the-gunman-2015-video_00dc3b7c0.html

The Gunman

After a time spent as director Sean Penn returns to acting in this action packed film where he plays a spy/sniper who wanna move on and leave the past behind. There is a love story in this one to attract a female audience and it has been shot in Africa, London and Barcelona. Ray Winstone is perfect in this one as the old tired man lending a helping hand but for those who loved Sean Penn in his military dramas will love to see his cool and violent side yet again.

http://www.swefilmer.com/the-forger-2014/the-forger-2014-video_820552e8a.html

The Forger

John Travolta stars as the forger who gets help to leave jail earlier to spend time with his son who has cancer. Being let out earlier has a price of course and a local Boston crime lord orders him to steal a Monet painting and replace it with a forgery. This is fairly light hearted with some episodes filled with irish american banter and the like. Really well made but far from a classic.

http://www.swefilmer.com/american-heist-2014/american-heist-2014-video_f7eccef03.html

American Heist

About two brothers ending up in the planning of a bank robbery set in New Orleans. Adrien Brody annoyed me a bit in this one as the thugish dude with tattoos trying to be all cool as it just became like a bad parody on a young John Travolta. It is well made and all that and all ladies get their fair share of romance too so when the popcorn has been eaten all should leave feeling pleased.

http://www.swefilmer.com/mennesker-...nesker-bliver-spist-2015-video_4dd1e0391.html

People Gets Eaten

The title of this amazing danish drama about a man slipping into dementia refers to an old danish song being sung in this film. As always the danes deliver amazing acting all through this film that made me laugh a lot despite it being far from a comedy. I suspect there were plans to turn this into a tv series and I sure would have liked to see a lot more of this which maybe is the best compliment you can gave it.

http://dreamfilmhd.org/movies/details/683243664-black-or-white/

Black or White

There is no doubting the amazing acting by Kevin Costner but in this one we get to see him as a drunk and a not at all pleasant or easy man to deal with and I loved that. Sure enough the film has those sugar coated moments as it deals with a real life story about a man who just lost his wife in a car accident and is thrown into a custody battle over his granddaughter.

It is perhaps one of the better films I have seen featuring Costner and my feeling about it was as good as when Mr. nice guy Robin Williams turned it all on its head in the film "One Hour Photo" although of course Costner in this one doesn't come close to that kind of madness but it is a very refreshing change for Costner that made me hope for more of the same.

http://dreamfilmhd.org/movies/details/683243684-johan-falk-15-blodsdiamanter/

Johan Falk: Blood Diamonds

The swedish Johan Falk series lingers on but in this one Johan Falk himself is more or less side tracked as his police colleagues takes control of monitoring the Gothenburg underworld. This is filled with violence on a level that ISIS would be proud of and you can tell the actors have yet again adopted into the characters they are playing as the dialogue has picked up dramatically but having said that these actors are sadly still posing a bit too much for my liking.

http://dreamfilmhd.org/movies/details/683243679-cirkeln/

The Circle

I consider this one of the best swedish films I have ever seen along with the vampire classic "Let the right one in". I am not normally a fan of fantasy filled with witches and dark powers but this is like taking the Twilight films and turning them into more than just a teen romance fantasy. That ingredient is in this one too but the acting is fantastic and the technical details really lifts the film above most others as this film manages to include the fantasy and mystery parts into the real life reality in a way I haven't seen before.

The girls in a school in a remote town gets drawn into witchcraft by their female headmaster with every girl having their own special quality to add to the mix. I loved how they managed to combine everyday swedish life with the mystery and fantasy. This is of course based on the hugely popular book with the same title and I can only cogratulate the director on a fantastic job as the name along with the faces of many of the actors are new to me and that is always nice. I guess every girl character makes sure most people watching can relate as you have the less pretty girl who is bullied and the emo girl and the posh girl so the whole spectrum of lifestyles and preferences are covered.

Benny Andersson from Abba worked with the musical score and the rest of the music is just perfect for this film and includes music from Kate Bush to name one. I am still in shock at having seen such an amazing film made in Sweden that managed to keep me interested all the way as you wonder what will come next. Director Levan Akin have been behind some amazing work before but was still a new name to me and I eagerly await his next film as I really should write him just to say thank you.
