Lights in the Dusk (dir Aki Kaurismaki)

Kaurismaki's The Loser trilogy's finare is another little gem.
In this film the director tried to explore Chaplin and Bresson, he told us after the screening.
The lead actor Janne Hyytiainen reminds me of cross between Gary Oldman and Mickey Rouke...*drool*

Yes, Kaurismaki attended Q&A session last night!
In 1996 I was really gutted to find out that Kaurismaki was unable to travel to London premire of the first of the trilogy "Drifting Clouds" due to family tragedy.
I'm really pleased finally I managed to catch him in person.
He answered questions very deadpan manner, but I was sitting on the front row and able to see the mischeivous twinkles in his eyes.

I won't stop watching his films.
UK release of the film is 6th April, don't miss it!

    Raging Bull.

Possibly Scorsese's greatest film. Especially considering some of the poo that has come out after. The Aviator (???)

Anyway is DiCaprio Scorsese's new "muse?" As Marty must be sufffering from delusions if he thinks gorgeous boy Leonardo is any match for Bobby at the height of his methodicness (if thats a word)

Err...it's got fairly good reviews in UK and I secretly look forward to watching Nic Cage in wig.

    Is it so bad?

I've seen a lot of pathetic film and I would call Waterworld for a Kubrick movie in comparison with this one.

From time to time Cage is replaced by a skeleton demon with a fire chain who is supposed to kill Satan's photo model kid who wants to take over the world by claiming some souls. And Cage is supposed to stop him, whilst doing that he does a lot of irrelevant stuff so that we can see some hughely expensive special effects.

It's also very american, everyone adores cage in the film - and of course he got a lost teenage love aswell who suddenly re-appears.

The only ones who might enjoy the film is people who enjoy watching motorcycle porn whilst drinking lots of cheap beer.

It's one of the smartest lines in the entire film, aswell as the acting is counted (it's a burning skull ). It's not like they hired Peggy Noonan or someone, this story could have been written by a three year old.

Even counting the fact that Cage mostly is replaced by a poorly animated burning skull and that he plays a carracter that will destroy his career just like George Cloney's Batman film nearly destroyed his entire career?

clooney had the sense to get out of the blockbuster "make a movie for the huge fee" ( he still gets a huge fee) he likes the money but wanted to show something and he has prove he has a talent, while working along side Steven Soderberg. Cage hasn't done this for years, he wanted to make this film as he is a comic book fan.

The last film I saw was 'Outlaw'. My brother got it off this dodgy geezer down the pub, I don't think it's out on DVD yet, this little chinese bloke just takes a video camera into a cinema and films them. Anyway this film is about a group of men lead by Sean Bean who's this psycho paratrooper and they go round London beating up all these drug dealers and 'nonces'. I right enjoyed it, mainly because it's got Danny Dyer in and he's possibly the most beautiful man in the world. It's directed by Nick Love, who did the Football Factory and the Business. The Football Factory is one of my favourite films, one cos its got Danny in it, also cos it's about people what fight and take drugs and its got a bit of sex in it too.
