Tomorrowland

A somewhat creepy Disney film starring George Clooney where Disney feature themselves in the film a bit. I don't know exactly what Disney want to tell us this time but it is political as usual and a message for the kids taking over in future. I guess Disney have noticed that USA is no longer running the show on this planet and therefor they look back at what made them great and paint a bleak picture of the current situation and the future. That is unless you view problems as a way of solving them and that is the main theme here.

The actors and environment and gadgets in this film gave me a feeling of a mix between a lot of films like Harry Potter and some other futuristic films of late. The english robot girl is annoying beyond belief and so is most of the cast and I could never see the appeal in Hugh Laurie cause I find him so utterly talentless and boring and seeing him is as depressing as opening the front door and being met by a male member of the jehovas witnesses or the tv license fee man.

This is great fun to watch over a xmas holiday I guess with the whole family getting their full worth of action and what not but please Disney don't pretend that you care about more than the money you are making but thanks for finally admitting that USA as a country is finished.

Checkmate

For a film featuring Danny Glover, Vinnie Jones and Mischa Barton this was a real disappointment as this is actually a B-movie where someone needed to wash illegal money so why not waste it on a film. There are so many bad details in this film that it becomes hilarious like the sound of the guns fired and the poor acting throughout. What was supposed to be a film about a bank robbery turned into a complete mess of a film and throughout it Danny Glover and Vinnie Jones play chess. If you watch this you will either become angry or just laugh your head off.

Fort Bliss

Michelle Monaghan is perfect as the single soldier mother who after 15 months in Afghanistan returns home to her kid who has forgotten about her. I love films where women are not portrayed as perfect mothers and instead we get to see the backsides of life rarely seen otherwise. As this film goes on it is evident the woman has gone through a lot of things being stationed as a medic with the armed forces abroad.

This dares to not be a patriotic film and instead focus on the struggles facing anyone, and perhaps more so women, in the armed forces. Well made and a pleasure to watch and I would recommend it to everyone.

Every Secret Thing

Based on a novel this is a bit creepy story of two american girls who took a coloured baby who was later found dead. Both went to jail for it and after serving time they both moved back to their town and so when another coloured kid disappears in a furniture shop the local cops put two and two together.

This film succeed in portraying people and families as a bit dented socially and you get that vibe that all is not ok and that it is a perfect breeding ground for people who will do things that are not normal at all. Great actors and Elizabeth Banks is perfect as the local officer who struggles to deal with this sort of case emotionally.

The star of this film is a new face to me in Danielle MacDonald as the obese girl fighting her inner demons as she feels she was once wrongly accused of something she never did. Dakota Fanning however is her usual anemic depressed self with black painted eyes and carefree ways which works well in this one.

A film set in the gym and fitness world sounds boring but this was amazingly entertaining for me in a very weird way. A millionaire heir turns up in the sleepy Texas town and wants to get fit which starts a bit of a triangle love drama. Despite having made loads of films Kevin Corrigan is a somewhat new face to me as an actor and in this he rocks as the guy who has just become a millionaire and could not care less about anything. His acting style in this one made me laugh a lot and without him this weird film with strange dialogue here and there would not have been as fun to watch.

This is an indie film not sure about what it wanna say and so it manages to say a lot and nothing at the same time but in doing so it becomes fascinating and entertaining in many ways. It cannot be explained very well in words.

Spooks : The Greater Good

Set mostly in London this is a story about the work of the MI5 and how they combat muslim extremists. It is no doubt well made when it comes to the camera work but as ever with a film involving undercover agents and spies it also becomes a bit complicated to follow here and there.

The acting is ice cold in the british style we've got so used to over the years but it just feels outdated somehow. This should have been an important film but it is mostly a waste of time and not even some good action scenes can save it.

Boulevard

The final film I get to see featuring Robin Williams and in this one it feels like his troubled mind at the time adds to the character he plays. He plays this bankman who all his life hid his homosexual identity from his wife and dad and himself as well. He befriends a rent boy and try to set the young mans life straight which only complicates things.

This is quite dark and dirty somehow and what made Robin Williams a great actor was not his roles as a weird funny guy but instead the roles he played where his characters were lost and dark and troubled and the ending words from him in this film is somehow a fitting end to his career.

Narcopolis

In a future where drugs are legal and most if not all are on them this is what you get. This could have been a great story in itself but with the awful acting and lack of something special this became very boring to watch. I can however give them credit for not describing the future as a nice tidy place but instead it is dirty and dark and not appealing at all and it made me see a resemblence with the current migrant propaganda and how that is described as something good when the consequences are not any good at all.

Long Story Short

Another brilliant danish drama that this time centers on some families and friends where we get to see them at occasions like weddings and christenings and all kinds of celebrations. What happens in the time between the parties becomes updated every time they meet again and it is a really brilliant idea as a story in itself.

I admire the ease with which danish actors handle their characters and this feels almost authentic but not without the type of vibe needed for a film to make it worth watching.

http://swefilm.tv/watch/the-runner_ti0c7/

The Runner

Nicolas Cage in a film about the BP oil spill in 2010. He stars as the local politician wanting to do something about it but a sex scandal comes in the way of that. You know what you get with Cage and I guess this is somewhat a return to form by him but somehow a film like this about something so dramatic was sadly turned into something that just feels too lightweight somehow and the end is just terrible as if they ran out of ideas along the way.

havent watched many movies in a while as ive been reading instead, i go through phases, but watched laura 1944 which is classic and then boogie nights witch is also a classic. the cast and talent in boogie nights is just staggering

Heat

There is such a beautiful mournfulness to this film. What would otherwise ( in lesser hands than Michael Mann's) be a cops-robbers crapfest becomes a lament for loss ... i.e. everyone loses in the end despite the narrative pretense of "good guy beats bad guy".

And , yes , I'm biased - the bank robbery ( 3/4 through the film) is one of the most realistic and involving contacts I've ever seen Hollywood manage. A crime film made for those less than impressed with the genre ...

yeah its a great movie about robbing a vault though most bank robberies just rob the tellers. almost thought you were talking about the 1986 movie of the same name set in l.a

Mission Impossible Rogue Nation

A simply awful film in every way and I hope it is the last time I see such an old school film where the dialogue is delivered as if robots said them. Cruise got to play a cheap style James Bond and hopefully he moves on now. Quite weird that Rebecca Ferguson finally got to act in a big international film after so many years in her native Sweden where she featured here and there but now she is an old woman who has lost her looks she got the break. She is related to ex royal Sarah Ferguson.

Advantageous

Based in a future america this features a lot of far east faces and is an indie film about, yeah you tell me. It is sad and weird and if I break it down it is about how we as humans may use future technique for a lot of things but will still have a need for the softer values in life that we do now.

http://swefilm.tv/watch/cop-car_titaf/

Cop Car

Kevin Bacon tends to turn up in great movies and I will already call this one a classic. It is about two 10 year old boys who find an apparently abandoned police car out in the fields. The not so nice cop turns up and find the car gone and a desperate search kicks off. This reminded me of a film like The Hitcher starring Rutger Hauer cause of the scenery and overall feel of the film.

http://swefilm.tv/watch/naomi-and-elys-no-kiss-list_tiioo/

Naomi and Ely's No Kiss List

A silly New York based film about gay boy and his faghag. Silly conversation that shows us just why americans are not on caffeine cause if they were they would burst. This is for the useless selfie generation out there who watched Glee too many times and confused it with reality.

http://swefilm.tv/watch/broken-horses_t0d08/

Broken Horses

Anton Yelchin stars in this amazingly captivating film where he as a boy witness the murder of his dad the cop and takes revenge for it. The film starts 15 years earlier and then goes on in the present and the aftermath of those early events. Chris Marquette is brilliant as the half wit but very violent brother and his performance in this one is a classic and deserves an Oscar if you ask me.

Vincent D’Onofrio is his usual brilliant violent and intimidating self in this one as the gang boss on the border between USA and Mexico. This may be considered a classic by some enthusiasts and I am one of those.

http://swefilm.tv/watch/true-story_tiy06/

True Story

Just as the title suggest this is a true story based on the book by Michael Finkel about the killer Christian Longo who killed his wife and three kids. James Franco as Longo and Jonah Hill as Finkel create magic in this one and if this does not win some type of award then I'll be very surprised indeed.

Having watched this film I guess New York Times have lost all credibility since they let Finkel go and then allowed Longo to write for them. The two still meet every first Sunday of the month in what must be the weirdest sort of friendship ever.

http://swefilm.tv/watch/beyond-the-reach_tityo/

Beyond the Reach

If you take the character that Michael Douglas played in "Falling Down" and mix that up with Gordon Gekko then you get close to his character in this one. He plays a wealthy business man who contacts the local sheriff to set up a hunting trip out in the Mojave desert. The local young guide gets the job to take this eccentric millionaire out in the desert when something goes horribly wrong or was it planned all along?

A great film as always where you cannot help but admire Michael Douglas creepy yet charming style. This made me think of the world famous dentist who is into hunting but in this one the prey is human and the film holds you firmly in a grip all through this cat and mouse chase of a film.

Reclaim

An american couple travels to Puerto Rico to adopt a girl who was left without parents after the Haiti earthquake. What first seems to be a smoothe handover and nice holiday turns into a nightmare when the girl disappears. This film is about human trafficking and the many kids around the world who get used by people to make money.

John Cusack is great as the bad yet charming man running the show and with little effort he manages to come across as a really creepy guy. This is also a cat and mouse film where you do not know who to trust if anyone at all.

http://swefilm.tv/watch/partisan_tioyt/

Partisan

Vincent Cassel is an actor that has impressed me in recent years almost always playing a weird and quite violent character in the films he's in. In this one based somewhere in a rundown part of Europe he plays a man who has created his own army of kids doing the dirty work of killing for him. This may sound disturbing but in this quite unique film the extended family he has created by housing single mothers and raising the kids as his the mood is one of a happy family just as anyone else.

That is until two boys start to question the leader and his non violent but very mental hold on them. This film reminded me of a classic such as "Kes" here and there and it made me think about a future Europe that may be turned into the same type of ghetto seen in this film as the political migrant crisis carries on.

Careful What You Wish For

Nick Jonas stars as a young man who ends up messing about with the new neighbours wife. Her husband is a wealthy investment banker and for a while they have loads of time when he is away to fool around. He gets hired to fix the boat of his new lovers husband when she turns out not to be the one he thought she was.

This is really clever and will surprise you all the way with twists and turns and is just a brilliantly entertaining movie set in a nice summer surrounding when everything seems possible.

Preggoland

We've all seen them in the streets, the 30 and sometimes 40 somethings in Converse and punk rocker attitude clothes that did not move on in life and got a bit stuck and around those that moved on it looks and feels pretty tragic. This is a film about a woman like that whose friends all get kids but she remains in her youth world of partying with a bad attitude towards most things.

To fit in she pretends she is pregnant with twins and all of a sudden discovers how she is seen and treated so much better and get accepted by her old friends again. This film is funny from start to finish and rarely have I laughed so much at so many things like I did watching this one.

Sonja Bennett is like made for this role and a new face for me and someone like Danny Trejo does well as the stereotype mexican who is her colleague in the local store where they work and a change of store manager further complicates things at first. I thought this would be a classic chick flick comedy but it is more than that and those that wrote this are very funny indeed seeing the funny things in loads of things we all can relate to.

Yet another film with references to swedish culture and companies which seems to be a comedy ingredient in a few american films of late which only shows the countries impact on american film making in recent years.

http://dreamfilmhd.bz/movies/details/2923-spring-breakers/

Spring Breakers

The title sounds like a cheesy film about students partying but this is more than that. I happened to see glimpses of this on a tv channel and just had to watch this as I missed it when it came out a few years ago.

It is about stereotype american student girls going on a springbreak where they bump into the local ganster rapper and his entourage. The girls who just wanna leave their hometown for a new life robbed a restaurant to be able to go on the springbreak trip and having arrived the 4 girls soon get the attention they have longed for.

James Franco as the whigger gangsta makes this film happen although it is a bit over the top but what I liked was the dreamy feel here and there and one by one the guts of the girls gets tested. I guess most can relate to this as most kids found themselves in an environment and situation where they tested themselves as a way to break into the adult world and that part of this film is the best.

They also pay tribute to the only song Britney Spears made that is worth a mention and that is the most magical part of this very different film.

http://swefilm.tv/watch/the-age-of-adaline_tiw9a/

The Age of Adaline

Somehow this felt like a very rare film about a woman not ageing after an accident and all that she has to do to keep the secret to herself. This is of course a very old philosophical topic that intrigues most people but the message in this film is that it would cause more problems than pleasures.

The film only becomes really heavy in a good way when Harrison Ford enters as the dad of the womans boyfriend who loved her way back and realises that there is something not quite right about her and the story she tells him and his family. Magical film and the voice telling the story here and there gives this film a novel like feel to it and adds a lot to the story.

Self/Less

What would people like Edison, Einstein and Jobs have achieved had they been given longer lives?

That is a comment from this film about extending peoples lives neurologically with another body. This is a really well made science fiction but the idea has been seen in other films of course. There is a lot of action in this one and you really need to remember who is who as the film provides plenty of twists and turns. As with most films dealing with things like extending life or create a new one the old dilemma about love and family remains as the biggest reason why we have all been given just one life with its limits.
