Favourite films

What are everyone's favourite films? Do you only see neo-realistic italian movies or Morrissey related films (which are very good, generally)?

My favourite film is "A Clockwork Orange" by Stanley Kubricks (I'm kind of an Kubrick fan), other films I fancy is "Lock Stock And Two Smoking Barrels", "Apocalypse Now Redux", "Blade Runner" and "Amelie from Montmartre".

So, what do you like?

Where did you get that idea?

Seriously, I L.O.V.E that movie, I watch it at least once every three months. I think I can already understand it without subtitles. The best part is when the husband is trying to get back with his wife and she's explaining how she changed and how her beliefs changed and she tells him she can't just go back because she's a new-born socialist and he goes "I'm a socialist too!" and she's like "No! You're a social-democrat, that's completely different!"

Ok I know, not too funny for someone who's not into political science but I am therefore it's funny enough for me!

Besides that my favorite movies would be .. err ... Taxi Driver? Big Lebowski too. I also loved Goodbye Lenin and The usual suspects. And speaking of guilty pleasures - I secretly adore The sound of music. I know all the songs and when I've been to London I've seen the sing-along version ... twice.

The films that I can watch million times and ask for more: Hair (yes, Cod!), Trainspotting, and some other great films that I can't remember right now...

Oh, and a special mention to the films that made me cry: Dancer in the Dark, Burnt by the Sun (Mikhalkov), When Father Was Away on Business (Kusturica)

the only movie that made me cry like a baby IN THE CINEMA was Shine.

Which kinda reminds me that I also love that movie very much.

Speaking of which Dancer in the Dark is great and it also made me cry. Now I've also remembered the fact that I love Shining.

having in mind that i've seen it about 5-6 times i'd say not.

my favorite love movies would be franky and johnny and ... err .. all over the guy (it's a romantic movie about 2 gay men, very moving)

I'm really exited about his new project "Container".

I haven't seen A hole in my heart but I've seen Lilja 4 ever and it made me entirely depressed. The problem was that I went to that movie unprepared, someone told me that it's a -comedy- and I went for laughs and it completely broke me and I didn't even go to the party I was supposed to go afterwards. I really felt like shit and I still haven't gathered any courage to see it again.

The good thing is that this movie now became sort of a part of the curricula of some Russian, Ukrainian, Moldovan, Romanian schools so it might end up saving some lives. I truly hope.

I recently discovered the films of wonderful Belgian director Andre Delvaux.
For some reasons, Japanese distributers weren't interested in his films which was really pity. I saw "Randez-vous a Bray", "Benvenuta" and "Un soir, un train".
Beautifully shot and very romantic yet they're so overlooked.

Wolve, you're so young to know about Kustrica. IMHO, he's one of the most important filmmakers at the moment. His first film "Do you remember Dolly Bell?" made me cry.

Good topic! One of my favorites is Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead (see siggy)- Tom Stoppard is a genius. Another one of my faves which is not very known is Priest -very moving English drama about a gay priest (and you get to see Robert Carlyle's ass - always a plus ). As a teenager I loved loved loved Pump Up the Volume and Heathers, and the perfect teenage movie - Mermaids.
As for comedies, the funniest movie I've ever seen is Monty Python and the Holy Grail, then there's The Princess Bride, The Pink Panther Strikes Again etc.

I'm also a kubrick fan...but apart from that I usually never watch movies... but lately I liked memento and kill bill

almost forgot my top 10 fave movie - cidade de deus - was left really breathless after i saw it!

also loved, loved, loved the romanian masterpiece "Death of Mr Lazarescu" but I doubt anyone here head of it as I accidentally came across it at a local film festival.
