Thread: Billy Budd

    Default Billy Budd

The title is taken from a Terence Stamp film, but is the song about Morrissey's relationship with Johnny Marr?

In the song Morrissey is the Billy Budd character and the first person is Johnny Marr.

What got me thinking is the line "now its 12 years on" (the song was written in 1994, he met Marr in 1982).

Wasn't it also rumoured that Marr played guitar on the song?

Title actually comes from Herman Melville's book which is made into the film.
I'm afraid modcon, you're not the first.

Yes I belive so. The mood of "I Won't Share You" comes again in "I would lose both of my legs, if this ment you could be free." This is also very similar to the "Aoh, the pain im my arms" parts from "Tomorrow". Maybe he hoped for an reunion...?
    What would Birgit Friggebo do?

I should start reading these topics more...I guess I'm not as smart as I thought I was....

But I knew the title came from the Melville book...I meant it as a joke

I'd be surprised if there wasn't a thought of Marr in the song. It was written and recorded in 1993 though and only released in 1994, so I wonder if Moz met Marr in '81. Didn't they actually briefly meet at a concert in the 70's come to think of it?
