During the period, Parklife, Definitely Maybe and Different Class were the BP elite. Looking back, it's really Modern Life is Rubbish that hailed the era (without hailing much chart or profit-wise). It's a fantastic album.
Dog Man Star is an epic. Sure, it wouldn't have existed without Bowie, but it's as good as some of Bowie's best.
the this is hardcore video is without doubts the best britpop video ever made

The Auteurs' New wave is one of my ten favourites albums from the nineties, but I think it is far too good to be included in the britpop thing
What would everyone say was the definitive Britpop moment? My vote goes for Jarvis Cocker's arse-wiggling protest against Michael Jackson at the 96 Brit Awards. Summed up pretty much everything.
Carving your name a thousand times won't bring you back to me
Yay, I'm so happy to see "Modern Life Is Rubbish" getting so many 'honourably mentions'. It's my favourite Blur album, and the best thing is that the guitar chords are in it so you can learn to play like Graham. *is easily pleased*
I went through a phase of listening to that and then "Dog Man Star" over and over and over again. The albums affected me deeply, musically and lyrically, creating a whole vision inside my mind of the world as I saw it. Dirty, lonely, grimey, romantic, tragic, etc.....
And well done I think it was Dazzak for mentioning the fabulous "Stay Together" ep. "Stay Together" is one of my all-time-favourite songs, and the extended version with The Kick Horns turning up, then Brett mumbling some old bollocks about cows and a farm - it's overblown and magnificent.
And then there was Pulp. Gawd bless Jarvis Cocker and all who sailed in her.
(and as someone else pointed out... Menswear... Bwahahahah! Oh, the awfulness! And... in the loos in the Good Mixer in Camden for ages there was Britpop graffiti, like "Johnny Dean is a wanker" and stuff carved on the cubicle doors).
