Inspired by Denia's great 'best cover versions' thread, I thought I'd upload by favorite cover version of all time, Erasure's version of Make Me Smile (Come Up and See Me). I also uploaded the original version by Steve Harley + Cockney Rebels, so you can rightfully compare...
For me, Erasure's version blows the original out of the proverbial f***ing water. I can't believe it, how much more meaningful and beautiful the song is.
If you ever get the chance to see the video for the Erasure version (it's on their Hits video comp), it's also amazing. It has the quality of my best dreams.
You can buy Erasure's version on their all-covers album, Other People's Songs. You can get the original Cockney Rebels version on the excellent soundtrack to the film Velvet Goldmine - I'm not sure if it's in print anywhere else.
Without further graphomania...
