Red face The Smiths: Drag Queen Music?!?

I was listening to the Smiths and a coworker told me that it was drag queen music. She didnt say it in a bad way, but I was shocked by her assesment. So in response, I promptly hit on everything female in the building to reinforce my heterosexuality...just kidding.

drag queen music! i've heard it called many things but not that! well, it's interesting to see other people's perceptions of the smiths but drag queen music... that's strange, to say the least.

    pretty funny, though.

I dont feel as if it is a proper label for the Smiths music because the drag queen we were talking to at the time had never even heard of the Smiths. Not that I have come into contact with a lot of drag queens but he has to be the biggest I have seen. About 6'3'' 250. Thats a lot of pseudo-woman.

sometimes i wonder how other people around me don't see the beauty of morrissey's music, but i think that people who are not so very emotional and sensibill cannot understand it, and cannot understand me when i say that is very hopefull...it is easier for them to call me depressive and crazy
So we go inside and we gravely read the stones
all those people all those lives
    where are they now ?
    with loves, and hates
    and passions just like mine
    they were born
and then they lived and then they died
    which seems so unfair
    and I want to cry

Um, "drag queen music". i just don't know what that is supposed to be, but I think your workmate is probably narrow minded. I don't know many people who like the same music as me and I don't even like football, but lots of people think it's so great especially here in Australia that's what turns them on. Well I just can't understand any of it.

When I think of 'drag queen music', I think of music that's actually performed in drag shows, like, I dunno, Abba? (It's the same old SOS... just kidding.) The Smiths are gorgeously homoerotic, to be sure, but it's hard to imagine a drag queen performing the likes of Hand in Glove or Girlfriend in a Coma.

I would definitely encourage this rock critic hobbyist because her opinions might be entertaining. I'd like to read more.

I've actully heard the words "drag queen" and the Smiths used in the same sentence before. However, the person wasn't saying the Smiths were drag queen music but rather drag queens. I honestly don't understand how people can make that connection, but they do.

I think you'll find that a lot of drag queens actually have rather high standards when it comes to music. Kylie and ABBA may just pass muster, but most prefer vintage pop and won't stand for the wannabes such as Geri Halliwell etc.
