DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORT INITIATIVE LAUNCHED MAY 2006
PRESS RELEASE
The Department of Transport has initiated a new scheme to identify and 'shame' bad and inconsiderate drivers thus giving the majority of good drivers the opportunity to recognise and steer clear of them.
From mid-May 2006 any drivers discovered to be driving badly - and this includes overtaking in a dangerous place, hovering within a couple of inches of the car in front, stopping sharply without indicating, speeding in residential areas, pulling out and turning without indicating, U-turning suddenly and unexpectedly in busy streets, straddling lanes on motorways or dual carriageways, overtaking on the inside and sundry other bad practices - will be issued with white flags with a red cross on them. These flags must be clipped to their vehicle's door and displayed permanently.
Any drivers caught twice demonstrating ignorance and inconsiderate behaviour will be forced to display two flags, one on either side of their vehicle, to indicate their complete and total lack of driving and social skills.
Please give the maximum amount of space possible to publicise this initiative as it is very, very important that the general public is well aware of the meaning of these flags.
