What song are you listening to right now?

In early 80's Sweden the band Ebba Grön (Ebba Green) were the kings of punk. Their social realism songs hit a nerve with the kids and their lyrics were often straight forward criticism of the people in power. In Rågsved, a suburb of Stockholm, they rented an apartment and played live in it before whoever turned up. I don't know what the neighbours thought but those gigs were legendary.

In 1982 a documentary film about the band called "Ebba the movie" was released and this is a clip from it when they play live in their apartment:

I moved on from Ebba to Imperiet (The Empire) which was Ebba singer Joakim Thåströms new band after his time with Ebba. This heavy and very deep song is in fact a song by swedish 18th century poet Carl Michael Bellman, well known for his drinking songs and tales about life at the time. I noticed someone had translated the song on Youtube if you scroll down. The haunting video recorded in a swedish autumnal graveyard.

"Märk hur vår skugga" (Notice how our shadows):

LOL

Wrong link to the song there. Here is the correct one:

Thåström went solo after Imperiet and this was one of his hits called "Alla vill till himlen" (Everybody wants to go to heaven). Video shot early 90's when the old green Stockholm tube trains were still around. I hadn't noticed before how the middle part is made up of sounds that remind me of an old Depeche Mode song.

Not Depeche Mode at all, it sounds like swedish electronic band The Mobile Homes and maybe they were around at that time and helped Thåström out?

These lads avoided suntrips and chose to go to gloomy german places to stare at powerplants and ruins for inspiration.

Never knew this great song by The Mobile Homes had a video. All they did lead up to this moment. Many say they were a DM rip off but they had other qualities and much darker lyrics. The last post from me for a while now, I will pay my fines to Sir Peter :)

The Meteors - You Want It , You Got It

" ... You call me friend / but sometimes I must wonder / if you remember / who or what I f***ing am ? ... Well one fine day / you'll make the move / but you'll regret it / you'll lose it all and tell yourself the blame's on me ... "

A real masterpiece of spiteful defiance - the music is perfectly in keeping with this yet manages not to spiral off into mere pseudo -aggressive guitar noise.

Loving this Mason Jennings album I bought at Amoeba 48 HOURS TOO LATE LIKE AN IDIOT.  (My brain was too tired after the superbowl anyway, I wasn't going anywhere but to bed.:p) Anyway the first track is excellent.
