Default Some Awful Stuff on ROTT

The Father Who Must Be Killed -- This song is horrible. The music, the lyrics, its place on the album. Why???

I'll Never Be Anybody's Hero Now -- Uh. No tune. Its a bad bad BAD Quarry outtake.

Work of Art - saved by the baseline. Sounds lovely, especially towards the end.

At Last I Am Born -- not sure what to say. If only he didn't keep saying over and over "At Last I Am Born". Interesting, at least.

Get rid of these, and you have eight songs - some great. Some okay.

So far, disappointed. I still don't understand why The Father and Hero are on here

I love "...hero" - he sings so beautiful on it and I can hear a melody!

Father isn't remotely like Munich....it's far more upbeat and the guitar line of chorus has the biggest hook of anything on the album. if the song didn't meander a bit at the end, it would be obvious single material.

the most awful on the album is this years "america is not the world" in the form of "i will see you in far off places"...the middle-eastern thing is hokey sounding at best...
and, the second half of the album in general is a letdown compared to the first half.

Yes, I really love "Hero" as well. One of my favorite songs on the album. The ending is fantastic!

agreed... the second half is weaker than the first half whcih i think is great. but i still think it has its moment. i'm not disapointed in the album though, i can;t think of a single album in which there aren't songs i skip over and don't care for too much. if i like half an album that automaticallly makes it a great album to me. and i like over half the stuff on ROTT--unlike YATQ which only had a few songs i liked.

Fair enough Just my humble thoughts so far. It may all change upon further and continuous listening, although my opinion on the Father and Hero have yet to change. Yet, I have hope they will grow.

    Yes he is sick.

That is why I have to pacify him at this hour of the night to inflict the medicine.

    Shhhhh, he'll be asleep soon.

    But alas, I'm awake.

OK, my opinion is starting to change. Work of Art is fantastic, Father is 'good' but out of place perhaps, maybe out of context, but Hero -- sorry, but that one, for me, gets worse with more listens.

ROTT is a very very good album - it could be one of my favourites.

Yes, it is Hero that I don't like and I just think the Father is out of context. Yes, yes, that's it.

    Sweet medicine.....

    You are right.

I haven't listened enough either and one or two tracks were pretty, skip on by, shall we say.

I'm not criticising you and I do believe Hero, like yourself, was one of the "skip on by" ones. Anyway. We'll both do another evaluation and post our results tomorrow. Sometime.

I do hope the sweet medicine never wears off!

    Mine will.

i don't like hero because his singing style on it. but many like it. strange but true. when i heard some of the Quarry b-sides and even on YATQ itself, i heard the same singing style. i was afraid it will dominate this album. relieved he doesn;t try it that much.

even so, i guess it's not bad singing, it's just not the type of singing i'm into, regardless who it is singing. because the singing style is very particular, it may get better when we get cd-quality ROTT.
