it streams in Windows Media and can't be saved.
is routing the line-out to an external recorder the only way to do it?
the sooner it's explained well, the sooner you can have the tracks
let's say the relevant machine is a non-Intel Mac

it's fucking brilliant, i think you want to hurry
1) download 'Audacity'
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ it's free and no spyware
2) install it
3) open the program and click 'record'
4) play the stream
5) when the stream is finished, click 'stop' on audacity, and then save your work (as an mp3 or wav, follow instructions on the audacity site for saving as mp3)
6) then UPLOAD on one of these and post the link here

Nick's done everyone a grand service
just be patient
Nick just re-posted
BUT NOT LIKE I GIVE A SHIT, IF YOU CAN GET THE MP3!! :-D
it's your hour. You pick the first track to go up.
In all fairness, I just re-posted something that was already on the board.
But I'll take the liberty to request "I'll Never Be Anybody's Hero Now".
Thanks so much, this is incredible.

but we all really hope not.
I don't understand, Audacity only sees my computer microphone as an input source. It doesn't 'hear' Windows Media or CDs playing. I'm using the OSX version marked as 'stable'? Have a go? I will try DLing the unstable beta Audacity?
If anyone's interested, you have to have a file called 'AOLTemp' open in your browser for the Media Player files to play...

Audacity Beta for OSX also sees only the microphone.
I wonder if I could loop the audio back into the computer using my Firebox? FireWire audio interface -> http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Recording/Computer/Hardware?sku=184133
i can try that
i'm more than happy to put it up. the best way possible just needs to be figured out.
if someone else puts it up first then i'll stop.
you're doing a sterling job sir , good luck with it... sorry i can't help more... i'll have a look on google and see if i can find any solutions
Is that you're on a Mac?
I just downloaded the PC version to see if I could figure it out.
Mine has a very clear option to record not out of the microphone input, but out of "What I hear".
I took a screenshot for clarity.

Does your copy lack this option?
ok, and mr noname, what song would you like to go up when this is sorted?
can anyone explain you You Have Killed Me was ripped or recorded from MySpace?
Mac users listen up - rather than Audacity, I recommend a program called Audio Hijack - its shareware, but you can make recordings of up to ten minutes before noise gets overlayed if you dont pay.
its a simple interface to pick up, and the files it produces can be converted to mp3 in iTunes.
maybe if you're having problems with Audacity you could give it a shot - its served me well.
sorry thats a bit too spammy.
yes Nick that option is woefully lacking on my copy. i have one option, 'default input', which is the mic.
i was going to post an illustrative screenshot, but then brightly realized that's a stupid thought if you're going to leak tracks.
so, keep the suggestions coming, recording via the digital audio out to - i can't think of anything except another computer? - might be the best or only option?
i wish i had a dvdr burner with audio in or something
wait... is there a PC user in New York City? yeah, really, i'll do it.
You might have noticed I have a Mac. Jesus. I do not have those programs.
thanks i'll try that now
