Hi.
The last major interview I read with Moz in mid-2005 (GQ Man of the Year?) had Morrissey drunk at The Cat & The Fiddle pub in Los Angeles. This week the NME interview has Moz drunk in Rome. What happened to "alcohol in moderation" Morrissey? In addition, Moz looked great in the NME preview photo with him standing up but the cover photo makes him look 50 years old when he can still pass for 40. Then today that 4th boring Q&A was released on True-To-You. My God was that ever boring. I get the feeling that Moz isn't "sorted" that he still has major issues. In addition, where alcohol in excess is consumed drugs are often not far behind (rumors of cocaine use during the Vauxhall recordings abound). And drugs and alcohol do cause a person to look haggard - and Moz does. Could he really be that tired from recording ROTT? I doubt it. We all know Morrissey is fundamentally lazy and even he would admit it.
But then, he is on the verge of releasing an album that may even do better than Quarry which went platinum in the UK and has done worldwide sales in excess of 1 million.
Throw into the mix that we here are very critical and the already murky picture of Moz's holistic well being, his health, happiness, suicidal thoughts, and preoccupation with death and dead people...becomes downright muddy.
Is it possible that all things: alcohol, possibly drugs, self destruction; the most successful album of his life; and our own criticisms being wildly out of control are all happening at the same time? Is everything converging?
I, for one, am scared. I would love to see Morrissey make it to old age (70+), I would like to believe he is well, I want ROTT to be as successful as possible, and I want us here at SOLO (his most devoted fans) to keep our criticisms within reason, praise him when he deserves it, and never never fawn over him like Julia does.
So I ask you to think on this...and if you can throw some light on the situation please do so. Though I am concerned for Moz I believe that ultimately his well being rests with him. I just wonder is there anything we can do to help...if help is required. I don¡¦t want to see Morrissey self-destruct like so many rock/pop stars.
