Best Friend On The Payroll when they listen to the music after the bridge of You Have Killed Me? Obviously YHKM is far, far superior though.

It has a similar note progression. I think Dear God... has an almost identical chord progression to I Know It's Gonna Happen Someday - can you hear that too?
Sk./Peter
I'm not listening to that one until the album comes out. I wanna keep it special. D'you like Dear God?
I'm reminded of 'NSAM'. I think there is a piano part there(or is it the guitar that reminds me?) around about "You did your best but..." and in my head the song transmogrifies into the part where Morrissey impersonates a motorcycle in 'November'.
Then again I've only heard it 3 times.

It could be a distant cousin of the rockier Southpaw tracks, I agree, but the production and texture are quite different. And the lyric is quite unlike a Southpaw lyric also. It's really a fantastic grower. Sounds good-to-average on first listen then gets better and better. It's a little bundle of throwaway drama. I think it will go down a storm live,
If only I had a ticket...

It does sound like 'payroll' - it is like you much more superior. i don't know whether you've the little demo for "on the streets i ran" that reminds me of 'all along the watchtower'.
as for 'dear god..' its sublime. Think of blurs 'til the end', julie cruise 'falling'(twin peaks theme) and throw in the Church organ at the start of george michaels 'faith'. I know you're scratching your head right now- but it is quite wonderful!!
Yes, do wait for the album to come out. It's v subtle and the arrangement gets lost on MP3. Think hymnal church-like music. I can't see that it's like I Know It's Gonna Happen really because the arrangement is very spare and only becomes "big" right at the end. And even then it is a very gentle kind of "big". I was expecting Morricone to come out with all guns blazing, but it's not like that at all.
I had that exact though earlier tonight in fact... interesting because "Best Friend On The Payroll" is probably one of the songs is Moz's entire catalog that I play the least. Yet I really like You Have Killed Me.
