That's what Boz has been saying may happen. Cale was in the velvet underground, incase you didn't know.

Say, now that would be interesting. I didn't know that Cale was doing anything music related these days....I just know that Reed has been cashing in on his greatest hits for the past 10 years....
The greatest comedy duo
Well, Cale did a smash up job prodcuing Patti Smith's first album, and I like what he's done with the Dylan Thomas poems, but I don't see a fit here. Perhaps I'm wrong. Both Cale and Morrissey are sui generis, so it might work....

Let's not forget his work with Nico. But I don't know...what kind of a producer is he? More importantly, how will this collaboration work? I know Morrissey completely put his trust in Mick Ronson because he practically idolized him as a kid; likewise with the Velvet Underground. Do you think Cale's influence will be such that it will bring a "new sound" to Morrissey's music, much like Ronson's influence made "Your Arsenal" completely different from his past albums? Any thoughts on this?
Cale's production of Smith was pretty raw and minimal...of course he was working`with a new and unknown, not the case with Moz at all.....the Velvets were fab, and Reed, when he is not being a @#!!!, is fab, so I think it could be a good thing....we will have to wait and see....

perhaps some "avant-garde" stuff could be expected, as the studio version of jack the ripper or the teachers are affraid of the pupils.
i think it would be great!!!

He had, afterall, produced Lou Reed's "Transformer" along with David Bowie. So he did know how to produce albums.¿ likewise with the Velvet Underground. I don't know what I would think about a bunch of viola squeals. But really, it all depends on what songs they hand over to him to work with. Like with Ronson, they couldn't have written a bunch of Belle and Sebastian type songs and expect him to put them through a grinder and have them pop up as glam rock. It just doesn't work that way....
A label who is set because they can potentially sign ALL bandmembers individually
JEEZUS! That just made my day! It would be great if Cale ended up producing. I think the Velvets are one of the greatest bands ever. I'd love to hear what the two can come up with together.

Cale helped produce Transformer? I will go look at my liner notes, but that's the first time I've heard that.....

No, Mick Ronson produced Transformer with David Bowie.
A label who repeatedly signs it's own acts

John Cale just did a tour with Siouxsie and Budgie (the Creatures) during last summer.... it was really a wild show... they did a few songs together and a duet... Cale's not doing too bad in his old age.

Nope, I don't think Cale would have anything to do with Reed's first solo album considering Reed through Cale out of The Velvets. Though, since then they have worked on a few solo projects including a tribute to Andy Warhol.
