I thought Morrissey was adicted to sleeping pills at one time?

When Morrissey was a teenager it said he was adicted to sleeping pills or did I get that horrably wrong? Moz said he had a 'barb' problem and barbituates are sleeping pills.
He was adicted to downers! not uppers!
Or I might of got it wrong and he might of been adicted to painkillers instead?
I wouldn't be supprized if Moz has taken anti-depressants at some point.

But it is all his personal business.

Re: Barbituates work like Tranquillizers by depressing the nervous system!!

Downers: 'Sedative-hypnotics' fall into two groups 'Barbiturates' and 'Benzodiazepines' they are forms of Tranquillizers and they work by depressing the nervous system. Barbiturates are highly adddictive and they are not used so much now.
Valium is a Benzodiazepine type of sedative-hypnotic and it is an 'anti-anxiety' drug it calms you down.
These drugs help calm you down and can help you fall into a deep sleep!!

Sleeping pills/tablets are infact a depressant and alcohol is also a depressant so you might need anti-depressants if you take them.

Painkillers come in two groups Narcotic and Non-narcotic. Narcotic painkillers are highly addictive heavy duty painkillers used for people usally in severe pain.

Lol! Don't ever change, Andrea.

Re: What is funny about Barbiturates/sleeping pills?

Re: Sorry Codreanu but I don't see how you found that funny?

Depressants retard the Central Nervous System.

Anti-Depressants, some of which ALSO RETARD THE CNS, are administered for PSYCHOLOGICAL depression -- the "first-generation" tricyclics are actually quite toxic when taken with alcohol or barbiturates.

In short, STIMULANTS are the counteractant to Depressants, not Anti-Depressants.

Re: There are so many differant types. I have known people take sleeping pills AND anti-depressants!

Depressants regard the Central Nervous System= YES as I said before "Barbiturates work by depressing the nervous system!!"

Anti-Depressants, some of which ALSO RETARD THE CNS, are administered for
PSYCHOLOGICAL depression -- the "first-generation" tricyclics
are actually quite toxic when taken with alcohol or barbiturates= YES THAT IS ALL TRUE ABOUT PSYCOLOGICAL DEPRESSION! But have you ever wondered why people get clinically depressed?? why people get psycologically depressed?? infact alcohol can lead to psycological depression!! Also sleeping pills are used in a psycological way to help people who can't sleep who are known as insomniacs!!!

In short, STIMULANTS are the counteractant to Depressants, not
Anti-Depressants.
depends which ones you use you can use Simulants and Amphetamins with depressants or sedative-hypnotics. But you can also use SOME sleeping pills with anti-depressants!!
I KNOW THE DIFFERANCE BETWEEN THE "CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM" AND WHAT PEOPLE MEAN BY "DEPRESSING" AND "STIMULATING" THE CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM!!!
AND THAT OF PSYCOLOGICAL DEPRESSION!!!

The overuse of alcohol is a SYMPTOM of depression, not a cause. Unless, of course, it is a general sullenness due to an alcohol-induced deficiency of b-vitamins.

but one thing can lead to the other if you know what i mean. Drinking ALCOHOL for instance can lead to clinical/psycological depression so when you STOP drinking you can then take anti-depressants but NOT at the same time!!!!!

Re: If you are drinking alcohol you really should NOT be taking any mind altering drugs with it!!

You really should NOT take any drugs with alcohol, apart from maybe smoking tobacco although that is bad for your health!! you can eat and drink water with alcohol that is fine because you can dehydrated!!
Yes it is true a lot of alcoholics are lacking in B-vits and generaly undernourished they can't absorb vitamins and minerals in the same way and also it is effecting their brain cells!!

Re: Docters will say NOT to drink at all if you are on certain medications/drugs!!

You really should NOT take any drugs with alcohol particually mind altering ones which effect your brain chemistry, apart from maybe
smoking tobacco although that is bad for your health!! You can eat and
drink water with alcohol that is fine because you can dehydrated!!

When you stop drinking and you get yourself sorted out. It is only then when people might start taking an anti-depressant or what ever they need.

Alcohol and Depression

The initial reason people start over-indulging in alcohol is because of depression. Whether that be, lack of self-esteem, (i.e dutch courage), blotting out memories, or merely an hereditary trait. People do not choose to be alcoholic, take George Best as a prime example. The most gifted player of his generation and some might say, ever. He is in Intensive Care now for a serious kidney infection. He was given a second chance with a second liver, however, the problem was not with the liver, it was with the "mind".

Anti-depressants as you rightly stated are useless, when you are indulging in a depressant, however, the vast majority of alcoholics under medical supervision are being treated by anti-depressants. Mind, they only prescribe a limited supply at a time, obviously, the chances of overdose (suicide) is highly more likely in those truly depressed in the first place.

See what I mean?

Useless chemistry

Re: I find the human Central Nervous System one of the most fascinating of all the body systems!!!

I am also interested in the endocrine/hormonal system.
Cells and DNA are also quite interesting.

I find the human brain should have been removed at birth and all that goes with it

Re: You sound like you are maybe talking from experiance?

The initial reason people start over-indulging in alcohol is because of
depression. I would of thought that is one of many reasons? you hear of people 'hitting the bottle' when they feel low.
Lack of self-esteem or confidence isn't depression in itself! (i.e dutch courage).
Blotting out bad memories isn't depression in itself! An hereditary trait! very true it can run in families wheather that is nature over nuture who is to say? wheather it is your genetic make-up? or wheather it was because for instance Dad drank who can tell? Many children of alcoholics often choose not to drink at all infact!! but others sadly drink just as their parents did.
Maybe habit and adiction have some part to play? maybe you peers who you hang out with does too? maybe it is feeling insecure? some people are more self-distructive than others.
You say you don't choose to be an alcoholic of course you don't why would anyone choose that? any sort of adiction must be so hard to deal with. Alcohol of course effects the brain and kills brain cells and effects a lot of the major organs in the body it is very, very upsetting. another symtom is depression.

Well when they feel "low" could be loosely termed as "depressed".

> Lack of self-esteem or confidence isn't depression in itself!

Oh is that a fact, I'd argue that point Andy.

> Blotting out bad memories isn't depression in itself!

No but bad memories may often result in depression in later years, wouldn't you agree?

My closest friend at school died two years ago at the age of 43 as a direct result of alcohol. Both parents drank to excess and died young, her brother however never succumbed to the demon and is a fully adjusted individual practising law. She was very intelligent and yet, obviously inherited the gene.

It is very difficult to analyse why some do and some dont so I wont even begin to.

Yes maybe some people just feel less fitted than others.

Maybe some feel they are a fish out of water and try and find another place to go.

Who knows.

It's all very sad and yet, what a boring place it would be if we were all regimental.

Alcohol = Depression

Then again

Depression = Alcohol Addiction.

There's an equation the brightest minds of science have still not sorted.

Maybe because, it just does.

Re: Some people have depression and they don't drink at all!

Well when they feel "low" could be loosely termed as
"depressed". === Yes I agree with you is what I said!! there is an expression when people 'hit the bottle' it is usually when they are feeling 'low'(and 'low' is a tearm for depression) or feeling 'down' or feeling 'blue'!!!!! yes when people feel low/depressed/down they can reach for the bottle!!!

No but bad memories may often result in depression in later years,
wouldn't you agree?== bad memories? abuse? all sorts of things can. Abuse can make you feel angry that you didn't have a normal childhood.

Which gene? the adictive gene? Some children choose NOT TO DRINK AT ALL WHEN THEIR PARENTS ARE ALCOHOLICS!! where as other children DRINK LIKE THEIR PARENTS DID!! one or the other can happen!! who knows what is genectics??? and who knows what is cercumstance??? victims of circumstance???

It is very difficult to analyse why some do and some dont so I wont even
begin to. === YES VERY VERY DIFFICULT I AGREE.

Yes maybe some people just feel less fitted than others.

Maybe because, it just does. HOW ABOUT PEOPLE WHO HAVE CLINICAL DEPRESSION AND THEY DON'T DRINK WHERE DO THEY FIT IN?????
I AGREE WITH YOU ON A LOT OF YOUR POINTS THOUGH. TAKE CARE.
