    Apologies if this has been posted before;

    I bought the above-mentioned book at the weekend, as the reviews seemed to be favourable, and it's a damn fine, funny and accurate portrayal of growing up reading the NME and listening to John Peel. It's almost a mirror to my musical upbringing, from New Model Army, Electro Hippies, Godfathers and of course The Smiths and Moz. There are many, many Moz stories in this book, as Stuart Maconie has met the man on numerous occasions - two chapters would be of particular interest to those here "This Charming Man" and "He Knows I'd Love To See Him". All in all, a great read, and full of interesting snippets.

    Thanks for the review. I may well have to add it to the long list of books waiting to be read.
    I really like Stuart Maconie. There is something very comforting about a Northern voice on the radio, as Mark Radcliffe, and they both have a fantastic music knowledge.
    Incidentally, and off the point somewhat, Mark Radcliffe is now on late night Radio 2, and I used to be a huge fan of his late night Radio 1 show nearly ten years ago.
    I think Maconie is strictly Radio 2 these days too? The point being that it's interesting that they have swapped allegiance, and followed all the thirty-somethings (like me) over to Radio 2.
    Sorry, rambling again!

    Oh right! I didn't know that. Must admit that I never think of listening to Radio 6.
    I wondered what had happened to old Lard. Ah Mark and Lard! Fond memories.
