Faster ER care - can anyone walk into any hospital they choose and be treated in order of severity of there illnes regardless of whether or not the have (or can afford)insurance?

Cuba has a better and more equitable healthcare system. A group of southern US politicianswent there to visit and said that the healthcare service A healthcare system is not just about good doctors. Its also about the ability to access all facets of the sytem regardless of income. I rather be here sitting for months on a waiting list than over there with no money and left to rot.

As for dentists:
Point 1. Teeth are naturally not snow white. If they are then that is a sign of unhealthy teeth (look it up if you want - its true)

Point 2. I hate that artificial bleached white perfectly straight tombstone smile that the majority of US celebs have. not that I like rotten teeth either. Its the little imperfections (i.e. differences)in people that make them attractive and original

Same thing here, the ER's have to treat you. You might end up in a county hosipal once you are stablized. If you can't pay, have no assets, eventually the US Taxpayers will pay the bill.

a new patient/non emergency for a GYN may takes months but normally the most you wait is about a week to get an appointment.

Wow! - Somebody one here disagrees with me, but didn't fell the need to resort to insults and squabbling. wonders will never cease.
OK - fair points - but my bet is the the social welfare system isn't as generous as most EU states.
Only the BBC (4 channels) have no ads - all the rest do. Of course 200+ are satellite.
GYN - sorry don't know, except in case of pregnancy where everybody is seen when required. You can go private of course, but that just means not queueing up for a couple of hours to see your doctor for a check up, a couple of less beds in your room, and a huge bill at the end (about 3 or 4 grand). As for the rest - I don't ask.
Right - there may be issues with Jackson (I've never really been bothered to find out), but you can't argue with subsidies for the less well off - well ok you can, but I won't in this case.
It appears that the US government/admisistration is more concerned with looking after big business than its own people
Does your social welfare system include:
A standard weekly unemployment benefit/sick pay based on social insurance contributions?
A mandatory old age pension?
A payment for single mothers?
Rent relief on private rented accomadation?
Free dental checks ups/eye tests for workers with enough social insurance contributions and subsidised dental treatment for same?
Free GP and prescription medicine for those under a certain income - at the same level as paying customers?
Are county hospitals as good as the rest?

We could swap facts and figures but there is no point in that really. In a nutshell if the US government spent less on war and more on its people, it would surely be a better place to live.

This post makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, and you didn't even finish it. If you are suggesting that you think it's o.k. that people died in Katrina because they are Americans, then you are absolutely vile. That we "deserve" this because we are Americans...it's unbelievable.

Its easy. Frank exchange of ideas (even some which may cause annoyance) and an effort at discussion/debate is a bit more difficult.
Also, the discussion was about the USA. I'm sure the other countries in the American continent have rich people in them, white or otherwise, as well as those less well off, and the less well off could be seen to be treated unfairly, as is the case in most countries, or globally for that matter. Would it be unfair to say that the majority of rich people on the US are white?
The statement was also relevant, I felt, given some of the accusations levelled in the wake of the disaster in the Gulf of Mexico - i.e. relief was slow in coming because the majority of victims were poor and black. Those accusations may be unfounded, but they did form the context in which my previous statement/quote was made.
And yes, I'm generalising, and you may consider some of my points to be unfair or just untrue. By all means reply and disagree, refute my statements, ridicule them if you will. Just don't attack me personally again. And get a grip.
