    Default south bank show question

at the very start of the south bank documentry is a chap playing a little banjo type thing singing a song. after the song finishes it cuts straight to the smiths doing this charming man.

does anyone know what the name of the chap singing that song is? or the name of the song or anything about it.

    thanks...

The chap singing the song is George Formbby.

Im not sure of the name of the song exactly. He was a big time english comedian in the days of black and white tv. A very very funny man who has legions of fans world wide. George Harrison was a member of his fan club!

Isn't he there to represent Moz's passion for all things quintessentially English ... seaside resorts, Carry On films (which are hilarious and I don't care what any of you say to the contrary), tea and scones and of course, unfunny comedians like Formby and Arthur Askey.
It's similar to the use of the exerpt 'Take Me Back to Dear Old Blighty' from 'The Queen is Dead'. Which according to google is sung by one Florrie Ford in 1917 ... you don't get much more English than that.
Does anyone know if Moz is still interested in all that quaint stuff, or did it all change with the hooligan obsessions and mafia connections?
I'm off to lean against a lamppost with me banjo and me flat cap and whippet.
