Oh, I don't know. I'd hate to think that "Behind the Music" is only about sensationalizing (after all, I've seen some pretty BORING ones - Rick Springfield???).
People around here have disagreed, but I think the story of Morrissey and the Smiths would be quite interesting if they handle it properly and really delve into Morrissey's "mystique," if you will. Hey, he may not have been a drug abuser or a big sex fiend (that we know of - I have my suspicions!) but he IS one of the most intriguing personas in music and the younger generation who's just starting to discover past artists via VH-1 will get an interesting lesson in pop music history (I refuse to amend my definition of "pop" to mean that recent boyband/Britney Aguilara Hoku crap that's been homogenizing our youth's sense of taste, which leads me to this...)
Did anyone happen to catch "Behind the Music: 1984" last night? Sure, it was the 80s and sure, most of the music that actually made the charts was relatively stylized commercial pap, but ohhhhh, the variety! Never again will we have people like Boy George sharing the top ten list with Van Halen and Tina Turner. I don't even UNDERSTAND today's music charts. I've either never HEARD, or never heard OF, most of those artists - and sure, maybe it's because I don't watch MTV 24/7 (oh, don't get me started on THEM) or listen to Z-100 or Hot 97 (you know what I mean - those cheesy pop stations that have a zany "morning zoo") but, back in the 80s, EVERYBODY knew those songs.
ARRRGGGHH!!! Now I've gone and frustrated myself. I know I'm going to get hell for this, but you know what I mean, children of the 80s. You know what I mean!
