The Seeker of Good Songs

Guest
I just finished watching this DVD and truely enjoyed it. It just reminds me of how great the songs of Morrissey's from that era were/are. Even the videos (less "Your the One for Me Fatty) are great. The closest that the current videos come is "I Have Forgiven Jesus".

And I think it was the "Sing Yor Life" video...a psuedo "live" performance in front a group of 50's style jitter buggers and jerks (or whatever that dance style is called)...Morrissey had an near exact look of Elvis from the Shoplifters single, all that was missing was the bow tie.

I love the video for "Will Never Marry." I am almost moved to tears watching Moz's devotees embrace their hero.

I love that video as well; you know Chrissie Hynde is among the dancers? "I Have Forgiven Jesus" is .......nothing but pure brilliance. And we here in America call the dance The Jitter Bug.

It is indeed moving, and I believe I shed a tear or more

Have you noticed how high Morrissey's quiff is in that video? Any higher and he'd need aircraft warning lights on it.

It is odd, but after I got the Oye Esteban DVD, I came to appreciate many of the songs on there much more -- like "Tomorrow." However, I can't watch "Boxers." I abhor boxing. I won't watch it. I think it is gratuitous violence. It makes me ill.

Bertie, it's horrible. I've seen it in Vegas, and it makes you want to be sick; the punches, the SOUND of glove hitting against flesh; watching a man's jaw crookedly MOVE as the result: it's awful. I wonder why more people don't get palpably ill after watching such an *event*.

That sounds awful!

I can watch staged violence in movies. But not the real stuff.

It is no different than those Gladiators fighting for pay and prestige.

Bertie, it is! Hey, you must be sleepy by now! It's almost 6AM there ( I am assuming you are in the U.K.) It's only almost 11PM here. Back to the topic, I agree with you, it's no different than the Gladiators. I know Morrissey had a favorite boxer, but I just can't imagine him *getting into* the...sweet science.(why they call it that, I don't know) I'm like you; I can watch the staged violence (but prolonged torture scenes I have a problem with) As for the real stuff, don't ask me why, but I am so against the war we are having in Iraq, that I MADE myself go to a site called ogrish.com - there you will see every single beheading Al Queda performed. I threw up the first time I saw it. I actually had to run to the bathroom when they slung the head onto the torso. (also it was worse when I read that your brain stays ALIVE FIVE MINUTES after being severed. I cannot even IMAGINE. (And NO, this didn't make me a fan of Bush- it only made me hate him more. I hope I didn't offend.

Wow that is horrific. I have not seen those beheadings. I don't think I would ever be able to get those images out of my mind. Do you have nightmares?

And no, you didn't offend me.

PS - I am American, so it is only 2 a.m. here.

But, I do have a date with my pillow in five minutes.

Talk to you soon. I hope you are feeling well.

Pikachu! I'm going to watch "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and then crash. The beheadings were horrific. Luckily for me, I have a short term memory, so I can only recall the first one which made me ill. But no nightmares, thank God. Yes, talk to you soon- I wish the same for you, that you are feeling well! g'night!
