Quiff?
Years ago, I did a "hair show" and recall from that event a stylist referring to a Morrissesque hairdo as a "pompadour." It was on this site that I first encountered the term quiff.

A prominent forelock (especially one brushed upward from the forehead)
Pompadour
n.
A man's hairstyle with the hair brushed up from the forehead.
What, if any, is the difference between a quiff and a pompadour?

That's a good question! I, as well, always referred to it as a pompadour until I saw people saying quiff on Morrissey sites.
Hmm...since we're both Americans...quiff is probably just the british term for it??

..maybe Pompadours are based on loftiness and volume,and Quiffs are more defined and slick.That`s if there is a difference(?) - dont know really. Found some Pompadour illustrations here: http://www.style-beauty-barber.com/elvis.htm

I always thought that quiff came from the term coif as in coiffure. I saw an interview with a guy who cut Elvis' hair who referred to it as that. The Elvis quiff of course comes from his love of the Captain Marvel jr serial and comics that he saw as a child and is also the origin of his capes. Incidendly, this is also why Moz says 'Shazam!' when he's at the barbers in 'The Importance of Being Morrissey'.
