You know, i really do enjoy Morrissey's solo-music, it's fun
and sing-along like..i honestly mean it i do, but i am so sorry
to admit it, but the smiths era was better. His newer stuff, except
for a few exceptions, lacks so much soul, and that's good, depending
on the mood your in, but The Smiths were true art. I don't know
waht happened to Morrissey, i suppose he grew old and..something
changed, but it was most likely Johnny Marr and Morrissey seperated.
You guys, Morrissey and his writers now could never accomplish
together The Queen is Dead..i mean, my god listen to "I Know it's
Over", or "There is a light..", such beauty! And he had such wit!
Sorrow..he was revieling himself with Johnny's music, you can't
say his work now compares with The Smiths..why? Because they are
as different as light and day. His work today is more "pop", not
as in popular, but as in the pop style..maybe not even that. But
Johnny and Steven had something special, they brought out something
beautiful in one another and left thousands like me breathless.
I don't long for the Smiths to be back together, except for the
small wished that i could see them..i realize something like that
can only come about once and i accept it. I listen to Morrissy
solo with a different ear. But seeing the title to this DVD means
more then just a simple name..it is sad, because it says nothing.
Please readers, don't accuse me of being pissy or not a real
Morrissey fan, because i am.

love,

Re: Concerning DVD title/ sadness it brings..

Wow. That's pretty melancholy stuff.

You've really got to snap out of that "glass half-empty", sentimental outlook. There's no debating, in my opinion, that The Smiths had a completeness to their music that Morrissey has struggled to recapture without Marr. However he has, albeit somewhat inconsistently, produced some excellent material since the demise of The Smiths. Let's not overlook the fact either that all of The Smiths are still around, stranger things have happened! Keep wishing.

As for the the DVD title it beats the $hit out of "Oye Esteban!". To my mind.

"How I love all of the very simple things of life".

P.S. Your web site has had at least one visitor. Overall I liked it, thanks.

Re: Not THAT old chestnut.

I'm sorry but you're wrong.

I hate that whole smiths/morrissey difference thing. The only difference is the people stood behind (or possibly just to the side of)HIM!

Where and how is this line drawn exactly?! weren't many of his earlier solo releases, songs he had written as a smith? Isn't he the same man...if Johnny hadn't been a twit and wanted to produce twit music do you really think that the words would have been different? NO, all that changed was the noise in the background...and to me all I really care about is his voice and his lyrics...he can sing acapella (sp) for all I care!

And if that Johnny Marr is so good on guitar - how come he knocked it on the head for eee..e..ee.eeeeeeelectronic?! He shouldn't have given up the day job...who realy gives a @#!!! about what the others did or can do...just LOOK at Morrissey for fliperty flaps sake!

Re: Not THAT old chestnut.

First off, i never even mentioned Marr, and it's true, his music
isn't very good nowadays..i personally don't like electronic and
compared to Morrissey's solo career, electronic is rubbish, but in
regards to electronic, it could've been much worse i suppose.
but i disagree with you when you say that all that changed was the
music, because that's not true. The first time i listened to
Viva Hate i was struck by how less poetic it was, and oddly,
Strangeways hinted at this..i love johnny's music, it is so utterly
perfect for morrissey's lyrics, and unlike you, it seems, i love
the music and the lyrics of the smiths equally and nor johnny
nor morrissey have been the same since..i listened to a lot of
morrissey's solo work last night and i realized i was rather
melancholy with my quip, and i still believe that it is hard to
compare the two because they are so very different!..and as for
the thing about a lot of his early solo work written while he was
a smith..well, that's while he was falling out with johnny and
Strangeways and his early work reflects just how bad the split had
been that his lyrics and the music was changed so drastically.
..and also, i have nothing against the music, it's just...
the lyrics i have a problem with, they're not poetic anymore, granted,
they are good, trust me, i still love them, but phrasing a qoute
morrissey once said.."they lack so much poetry"..and i'm not
putting him down, i really do enjoy his music, but the smiths
and his solo work are very, very different, and therefore i can't
say one is better then the other when in fact in my original i said
the smiths were better..but in conclusion, it all depends on the
individual, maybe morrissey solo does something for your soul that
the smiths doesn't..well for me, the smiths speak to me and i connect
with the music in a sort of other-wordly way...oh but i don't put
enough empahsis on how much i like morrissey's solo work, it's
really very good under circumstances..

Re: Laughing...

My fault I suppose for being so frequently mean! I hope I didn't get your knickers in a twist over this one - I honestly didn't mean to
: ) Brownies honour (oops - I got thrown out of the brownies).

It just triggered off my own old chestnut!
