for the people who can't get enough of belle and sebastian

The cool thing about that band is that they can take turns singing the songs because they will have someone in the group who can really fit the mood of the song. Stuart David is really cool because he sounds like Yakko from Animaniacs. His one line in "Legal Man" is the best part of the song. It was really cool. Then, you have the guy who plays trumpet with a really cool deep voice. At first, I was a purist and thought that only Stuart Murdoch should sing all of the material, but this makes it even better.

Yes, it was cool.

I haven't had a chance to sit down and analyze the lyrics, but it sounds like their usual to me. Actually, I was kind of worried of the quality of this album since the B-sides to Legal man weren't that great. But it was cool. There were many cool melodies and I liked the Wrong Girl at the first. But the others were cool and they grew on me as well. There are some I skip over while driving in the car. that's where I mostly listen to my stuff. They slow ones may be really cool songs, but trying to listen to soft melodies while driving down the highway doesn't work.

Has anyone else seen "Shaft" and was relatively bored by it?

To tell you the truth, I haven't heard ONE song by Belle and Sebastian, yet I'm so intrigued by all the comments I've heard of them...are they really worth a listen?

Haven't see it, but Samuel L. Jackson is one bad mo-fo.

I want the one I can't have

Wow - I thought Stevie Jackson (guitar) sang that line!
(btw, imho, David has a John Lennon-ish quality to his vocals).

Hmm...now I'm baffled. I always thought there were 3 male vocalists in the band (Stuart M, Stuart D and Stevie). You're really making me question my B&S knowledge.

Stuart D would mostly do the spoken-word.
(...at least I THINK he would - I'm not so sure, anymore!)

So, what you're telling us is, you think it's "cool."

no, they're pants - listen to SACK instead

LUCKY YOU!!!

NOOOOOOO, they are bland, limp, weak as pensioners' tea and very much up their own arses.

SACK, on the other hand, are just brilliant. And so are Kraftwerk.

for sure...a lot of people often compare them to the mellower side of the Smiths, like half a person, stretch out and wait, back to the old house (hatful of hollow version) etc.

they're kindof more folk/indie sounding....but so bitter sweet and so beautiful.

Oh! I could be really wrong about that. I just assumed it was him because I knew he actually contributed to vocals quite a bit.

But, then I remember something I read about this other guy taking over lead vocals at the end of Legal man, and I think you're right.

No, you're probably right. I'm a flake. I should be beaten senseless for my lack of knowledge, however, they are notorious for not really listing on their liner notes who is singing or playing what.

Aw...dont' make me feel bad! I didn't want to mislead people. I just wanted everyone to know how cool it was.

Sack? How does a thread about B&S bring out the ire in a Sack fan??

I'm glad I'm not the only one that make confusion with B&S singers...

Oh, for sure... but everybody I know hated them the first time they listen.

Nowadays I am a B&S addicted, I have all their albums and EPs. They have Smiths influences as well as the soft side of Velvet Underground - but they are very original indeed.

Isobel Campbell sings marvelously, and Legal Man with another voccalist is really great. B&S is still more charming with more than one voccalist.

I think the softer songs in this album are among the best songs of B&S career: "i fought in a war", "don't leave the light on baby", "the chalet lines", "family tree" and principally "waiting for the moon to rise", one of the most beautiful songs ever in my opinion.

What possessed you to start yet another thread about B+S anyhow?

Missed you horribly, dimples, but I'm back.

You realize that it took me a minute to remember who you are....

pants on fire

"So now you send me your hardened regards...?"

Remember you did, buttons, and that's all that matters.
The question I posed remains unanswered.

P.S. It honestly pains me to point this out but if you were to restrict your over-use of a certain adjective it would be "cool".

Oh this coming from the girl who said B&S are 60's folk music and are boring in general.....hmmmmm changing your tune?i told you so

What the hell are you talking about?!?!?!

You obviously have me confused with somebody else because I've been a huge fan of theirs since '97 to the point where I have every EP that they have released, AND have shown up at the record store the day of album release about 3 times now...
