We hear a great deal at present about how the trolls are the scourge of this website, but let us not forget, Morrissey himself has been trolling the Music Industry for over 20 years & if any of us are the true heirs to his legacy, it's the trolls.
What an absurd claim I hear you cry. Well, let's examine the evidence shall we.

Morrissey's violent statements denouncing anyone & everyone, comments about Thatcher, The Royal Family, Animal Rights, Charity records, other singers and groups, the BBC, Joyce & Rourke, & even Johnny Marr, without whom....The list is, if not quite endless, then it is infinitely longer than the combined pronouncements of all of his contempories combined.
I could say more, & indeed give quotes & dates, but this is only a message on a discussion board, not a Babylon Book.
Of course, the fact that we tend to agree with most of what he says on the above subjects excuses him from any blame, on the contrary, the iconoclastic savaging of the established order merely endears him to us all the more.
Even when the flippant remarks turn into a more dark & considered hatred, such as the expressed desire that Johnny Rogan is burnt to death in a hotel fire or dies horribly in a road traffic accident, or that Mike Joyce is castigated with such venom as to leave no one in any doubt how much Morrissey loathes & detests him.
Virtually every interview brings forth another verbal volley with Morrissey spitting out salvoes of scorn & derision on a succession of familiar targets.
As yet I haven't touched on the so-called "racist" nature of some of his remarks over the years, but as the politically correct brigade on this site are poised & ready to pounce on any person who uses unfashionable language or doesn't appear to tow the party line, I think it would be pertinent to remind ourselves of the many ambiguous & unapologetic remarks, both in his work & in interviews, that Morrissey has made.
There have been many withering put downs of other, predominantly Black musical genres, such as Rap and Reggae, & the statement that went somewhere along the lines of "it seems that, by rights, one must be Black to appear on Top of the Pops these days" uttered in the mid 80's.
Added to this is the deliberately provocative nature of song lyrics & onstage props & refusal to deny the accusations of racism at the time they were most intense, thereby defusing the situation & leaving no-one in any doubt as to his true opinions.
It's also interesting that he very rarely works with any non-caucasian & that the vast majority of his collaborators have been British, usually English.
Jesse is the one of the rare exceptions to this "rule"(?), & even his recruitment could be seen as further pandering to his Latino fanbase (oye esteban, 'hector' from FOTGTD, 'Mexico' "skin, hair, teeth, what a combination!" from The Importance of Being Morrissey etc.)
The recent remark in the NME about "how many asylum seekers can be allowed to "flood in" to the UK" was another case in point. I'm sure if anyone on this site would have made that statement, then the Net Nazis/PC Brigade would have had a field day.
In conclusion, Morrissey has always lashed out at anything that he finds annoying or upsetting, just as the trolls on this site do, & he continues to do so without any apology, making remarks & statements that could be, & often are, considered racist or offensive, just as the trolls do on this site.

None of this is meant as an attack on Morrissey's morality or a condemnation of his behaviour.
On the contrary, part of the reason I love him is his fearlessness & his almost pathological need to be honest, whatever the cost, & I think that cost has been great down the years as the Industry itself, supported by the Music TV stations & Music Media, have repeatedly tried to marginalise him or even end his career alltogether.

So the next time you are clamouring for sanitised message boards & calling for the head of some old queen or other, pause for thought & remember that Morrissey is the true king of the trolls.

Re: Fascinating...

so let me get this straight. you are comparing morrissey to the likes of ian/moby, andyison, rourkie bear, republican party reptile (who i'd love to meet in the ring) broken, hector and the bdsm loving free yourself. holy moly. you are a piece of work. i wish you a happy new year, nonetheless.
holy moly... i mean , you appear to be a fairly intelligent person...

one question for you 'dont blame me...' i am an american born female of chinese descent who finds the music and personalities of gwen stefani (caucasian) to be detestable and has spoken her mind very candidly about this subject in front of large groups of people of (mixed ethnicitities), does this make me a caucasian hater?

curious,

Re: Fascinating...

oh, ok, that is how you see it?

i thought an m-solo troll was one of those posters who posted offensive nonsensical hate driven garbage...but maybe i'm wrong.

this site is truly bewildering.

I wasn't comparing Morrissey to anyone. this is perhaps his greatest achievement, the fact that he is fabulously unique & incomparable.
However, I do believe that the so-called trolls are regarded, on this site, in a similar way to how Morrissey is in the Music Business & for similar reasons, well, until recently that is, as he has now, reluctantly, been embraced somewhat by the mainstream.
Make no mistake, I have no time for andy ison, rpr, or in fact any of the American trolls, but some of the other much maligned users have displayed wit & intelligence & demonstrated an individuality that marks them out from the run-of-the-mill annoying idiots.
by the way, what does "bdsm" mean?

You appear to be struggling to make some kind of point here. What is it?

Re: Fascinating...

Kestrel, I agree with you.

I see the point that the poster was trying to make, but I think he or she is a bit misguided, at least in the sense that that is not what happens on morrissey-solo in regard to the trolls. On here, people post anonymously and then finger-pointing begins. For example, things have been attributed to me, even, which I would have never said or done, and name-stealing/anonymous posting in general runs rampant.

Morrissey points out true injustices and wrongs to society; he doesn't say derogatory things just for the sake of saying them, which I think happens quite a bit on here.

Flame at will, everyone. Happy New Year all, for what it's worth.

Re: Fascinating...

Oh hello, I do believe I know who you are, my dear friend.
Haven't a clue what bdsm means either, must be some American jargon, probably something they put on cheeseburgers...is it a type of sauce?

We are talking about the same Morrissey here yeah?
You know, the guy who was in The Smiths, who never has a good word to say about anyone unless they've kissed his arse first?
Thought not.

What do you suggest, that people who try & con genuine fans with bogus memorabilia on ebay are left to it?

That someone who posts lies about another site user should be allowed to do so with impunity?

That abuse of reponsibilities by the webmaster and board moderators should go unchallenged.

Not on my watch sweetheart.

These are the people I'm talking about, the ones who are called "trolls" on here by the ones they are exposing as disingenuous & duplicitous.

Re: Fascinating...

>Yes, when it suits you Morrissey points out true injustices.
People on here also point out true injustices, in my case, the plight of the Palestinians, as a result of which I was called racist,i.e,how dare I castigate the Jews.
When it suits, you fall in line, when it doesn't you feel fit to condemn.
I think you are all narrow minded idiots who are scared to speak the truth for fear of repraisal....you make me sick.
You don't have any original thoughts.
You really are the ultimate in crashing bores!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I AM NOT ONE

Kestrel, I agree with you.

I`m responding to you Thursday, because I made a new years resolution not to reply to aliases. The poster may indeed have some valid points to make but why isn`t he/she posting under a recognizable name? His/her argument would carry more weight then in my view.

Happy New Year to everybody by the way.

Re: Fascinating...

Well, I definitely agree with you on that.

The bogus jacket scheme was absolutely disgusting, and whoever did that should be truly ashamed, truly, of what they did. That wasn't trolling, that WAS a good thing, to point out the shameless pursuit of money by conning Moz fans. I agree with that.

Re: Fascinating...

I don't think what you did was 'trolling;' I never said it was. I really do respect that you had the nerve to speak your opinion and post under your name. I was referring to the aliases and anonymous flaming done on here, that's all.
