    Default Quarry and B-sides assessed

After considered listening here are my marks out of 10 for Quarry and all of the B-Sides

    Quarry
America is not the World – 6.5
Irish Blood, English Heart – 8.5
    I Have Forgiven Jesus – 7.5
Come Back To Camden – 8.5
    I’m Not Sorry – 7
The World Is Full of Crashing Bores – 8
How Can Anybody Possibly Know How I Feel? – 7.5
First of the Gang to Die – 9
Let Me Kiss you – 7
All The Lazy Dykes – 6
    I Like You – 6.5
    You Know I Couldn’t Last – 7

    B-sides
It’s Hard To Walk Tall When you’re Small – 8
    Munich Air Disaster – 7.5
    Never Played Symphonies – 7.5
My Life Is An Endless Succession – 7
Teenage Dad on His Estate – 7.5
    Mexico – 6.5
    Don’t Make Fun of Daddy’s Voice – 7.5
    Friday Mourning – 8
    I Am two People – 5.5
No one Can Hold A Candle to You – 7.5
    Slum Mums – 6.5
    The Public Image – 7.5

Average mark for Quarry – 7.42
    Average mark for B-sides – 7.21

On the whole, the B-sides are a very solid whereas the album is more inconsistent, with some really highlights punctuated with songs which are slightly underwhelming.

What’s notable is that if some of the weaker songs on Quarry, such as ‘America . . .’ and some of those towards the end such as ‘Lazy Dykes’ and ‘I Like You’ had been deployed as B-sides and replaced by ‘Daddy’s voice’, ‘It’s Hard to Walk Tall’, ‘Friday Mourning’ and Never played Symphonies’, this would have resulted in a very, very good album as opposed to a decent one. What has been heart warming is that there have been very few real disappointments – I think that only ‘I Am Two people’ and perhaps ‘Lazy Dykes’ are poor songs.

I love these kinds of topics! Here are my rankings. One thing that jumps out at me is 'Wow! We've been treated to lots of new Morrissey songs this year, haven't we?'

    Quarry
America is not the World – 4
Irish Blood, English Heart – 10
    I Have Forgiven Jesus – 7.5
Come Back To Camden – 7
    I’m Not Sorry – 8.0
The World Is Full of Crashing Bores – 6
How Can Anybody Possibly Know How I Feel? – 9.0
First of the Gang to Die – 10
Let Me Kiss you – 7
All The Lazy Dykes – 6
    I Like You – 7
    You Know I Couldn’t Last – 8.5

    B-sides
It’s Hard To Walk Tall When you’re Small – 9
    Munich Air Disaster – 7
    Never Played Symphonies – 10
My Life Is An Endless Succession – 8.5
Teenage Dad on His Estate – 6
    Mexico – 6
    Don’t Make Fun of Daddy’s Voice – 9
    Friday Mourning – 8
    I Am two People – 5
No one Can Hold A Candle to You – 10
    Slum Mums – 8
    The Public Image – 7

I would axe America, Bores, Lazy Dykes, and MAYBE Let Me Kiss You (not sure on this one, I don't feel this one has aged all that well sine May.) Replace with "Its Hard To Walk Tall" "Never Played Symphonies" "My Life is an Endless Succession" and "Daddys Voice."

Also, I'd love to slip "No One Can Hold A Candle To YOu" onto YATQ as well. Even though its a cover, I think its one of my favorites from Morrissey ever, and I've only ever heard his version live a few times and the version from Janice Long, though my import of it should be arriving any day now. I'm very excited.

I can't really disagree too much with any of your markings. The best tracks for me were 1) Camden 2)Never Played Symphonies 3) Daddy's Voice and the 1st two singles.

The only sub standard song I have heard was "Lazy Dykes".It's quite a rare thing in that it is actually a BAD Morrissey song.
