It's an album with a bunch of local Florida acts covering Morrissey and Smith tunes. Frankly, I hate it because I think transforming any of these tunes into "ambient" or "industrial" is sucky! Just wondering if anyone else has an opinion about this.
Trust me Iodine's rendition (sorry lame ass Naples/Ft. Myers dance outfit) of "Unloveable" is unbearable.

Sounds a bit like that smiths is dead CD where new bands have got together and released 'new specially spoiled versions'of songs that quite clearly do not need to be covered or rather ruined.

I've heard OF it, but haven't heard it. I don't mind covers records if they're the types of music I'd normally listen to. Ambient and industrial are not my bag, though.

I would LOVE to hear some Smiths songs get the country/twang treatment, though!

I normally would say that was a bad idea being that i HATE country music but thats usually because the lyrics are so annying. a County - version Of "Shakesheres sister" or "THis charming man would be great. Or a punk band covering "Miserable Lie" I havent heard anyone cover THe Smiths properly except maybe the deftones doing "please please.." everyone should check that out!

Oh, I thought the Candyskins version of Everyday Is Like Sunday was really good. Has anyone else heard it?

Kirsty Mcoll does a good You Just Haven't Earned It Yet Baby, but I didn't like Hand In Glove by Sandy Shaw. The covers are good but then its oh so nice to hear Morrissey singing them instead, don't you think?

personally i'd LOVE to hear someone play a ukelele leaden cover of "Hand in Glove". Or a piano leaden version of "The Hand that Rocks the Cradle".

YES, Kirsty is a star though! Have you heard the Pretenders with Johnny Marr doing Meat is Murder? 10000 Maniacs do everyday is like sunday quite well but whenever I hear even a decent cover I immediately have to put the real thing on. However whenever Morrissey covers anything he improves it!

Why, no, I haven't. What are they like? They're on 4AD, I see - they've got some talented bands on that label.

If Morrissey's version of 'skin storm' was an improvement, then how bad must the original be?

they have the most amazing sound. It is sort of like gothic country.

At first, I was very reluctant to listen to them, because I don't really have a soft spot for country, not even Patsy Cline. But her vocals are amazing and the song writing is more old style country, with lots of twanging. I recommend their first cd, "Gentle Creatures." It was just re-released with bonus tracks last year. I don't think you'd be disappointed, if you come to the table with an open mind.
