I tried to think of a way to work those Jaybee Wasden lyrics into things, but I failed. = )

For a moment of seriousness, though: Weren't you moved by that poem? The side I wanna be on is that guy's side.

I'm hopeful you posted the below in jest.

it is in my arse in jest. Workers of the world unite - you have nothing to lose but your chains. You people are blinded by the rhetoric that money and power are everything, but you forget about the poor and the needy - real people. I ask you how can capitalists and right wingers be Morrissey fans. I say tax the super rich and the multinationals - make them pay for free healthcare, free education at all levels, better social welfare for all. Let there be a free political system in the US where socilaism is not a dirty word. Give us a proper left wing presidential candidate and then we'll see some serious politics. Bush is an ass, a puppet and Buffon. Its Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice et al., and thsie we don't even know that we should be really afraid off. What Castro and El Che did in Cuba is to be admired. You seen to forget that the Us supported amonst others
The Contras in Nicuaragua
Saddam Hussein in Iraq
Osama Bin Laden in Afghanistan
General Pinochet in Chile

The paranoid fear of left wing idealogy has lead the US to impose puppet regimes the world over. Why don't you concentrate on your own very obvious social problems and fix the inequalties which exist in your country before waging war on others

A homage to those who fought against Franco

VIVA LA QUINCE BRIGADA
(Christy Moore)

Ten years before I saw lhe light of morning
A comradeship of heroes was laid.
From every corner of the world came sailing
The Fifteenth Inlernational Brigade.

They came to stand beside the Spanish people.
To try and stem the rising Fascist tide
Franco's allies were the powerful and wealthy,
Frank Ryan's men came from the other side.

Even the olives were bleeding
As the battle for Madrid it thundered on.
Truth and love against the force af evil,
Brotherhood against the Fascist clan.

Vive La Quince Brigada!
"No Paseran" the pledge that made them fight.
"Adelante" was the cry around the hillside.
Let us all remember them tonight.

Bob Hillard was a Church of Ireland pastor;
From Killarney across the Pyrenees he came.
From Derry came a brave young Christian Brother.
Side by side they fought and died in Spain.

Tommy Woods, aged seventeen, died in Cordoba.
With Na Fianna he learned to hold his gun.
From Dublin to the Villa del Rio
Where he fought and died beneath the Spanish sun.

Many Irishmen heard the call of Franco.
Joined Hitler and Mussolini too.
Propaganda from the pulpit and newspapers
Helped O'Duffy to enlist his crew.

The word came from Maynooth: 'Support the Fascists.'
The men of cloth failed yet again
When the bishops blessed the blueshirts in Dun Laoghaire
As they sailed beneath the swastika to Spain.

This song is a tribute to Frank Ryan.
Kit Conway and Dinny Coady too.
Peter Daly, Charlie Regan and Hugh Bonar.
Though many died I can but name a few.

Re: Spanish Civil War,that was all just before the 2nd World War!!!

They did indeed Andy - and we should be proud of them.

And many people from many countrys died side by side to fight the true cause. The song is by Christy Moore by the way, a Famous Irish singer. Are you OK. You were saying some strange things the other night and I was worried.

Re: "Adelante" was the cry around the hillside! that is my favorite part it's in Spanish!!!

Re: I saw Christy Moore play live at the Flead Festival it was brilliant! him and Bob Dylan!

I glad you like our Christy. He has a lot to say. I'm Irish by the way, so I hear him a lot. Anyway, goodnight Andy, and be good.

Ignore this Fascist Andy. Better people tha him like your step fathers Dad, and your Dad are people you should be proud of. Don't waste time on this scum who praises Franco, a man who let Nazi German planes bomb the innocent civilains of Guernica.

Death to all Fascists.
