I like what you've done to the end of Viva Hate, it looks as exciting as the beginning now - the actual album tails off toward the end so that's deffo a big improvement.

Have you got any suggestions of how to rearrange the southpaw grammar songs to improve the album?

Viva Hate looks great but what about hairdresser on bona drag? I'd have that in place of Bengali, and maybe sing your life too

otherwise, brilliant choices

southpaw grammar - if you want to enjoy it to its full potential

Southpaw Grammar is an infuriating album in that it has moments of genius, but some real lowpoints. I found adding ina few period b-sides and songs that fitted the theme of the album turned it into one of the most fantastic albums I've ever heard - I love this selection of songs:

1 The Teachers Are Afraid
2 The Operation (with drum solo edited down to 20 secs and the thrash at the end chopped off where the guitars close at the end of the song itself)
3 Boxers
4 Best Friend On The Payroll
5 Reader, Meet Author
6 Don't Make Fun Of Daddy's Voice (Peel session)
7 Jack The Ripper (chicago version available on www.southpaw.tk - best I've ever heard)
8 I'd Love To
9 Southpaw (edited down to 6.48)

Interesting that you didn't include "Nobody Loves Us." That seems an obvious choice. What was your reasoning?

Re: southpaw grammar - if you want to enjoy it to its full potential

I suppose like Morrissey, I just don't feel it fits the mood of the album - so I put Nobody Loves Us on Maladjusted. Stuff like Lost, Nobody Loves Us, Now I am a Was and even recent maladjusted-type songs like "Munich" can really improve that album.

Again that looks excellent - but I'd put nobody loves us on there i'd love to doesn't sound right there for some reason

still, brilliant work

excuse me, that's the point?

maybe when you build your time machine or your faerie godmother bestows upon you magical powers, you can go back and change reality!

you have too much f**king time on your hands...sad, sad, sad...

Re: excuse me, that's the point?

There's always one lump of coal under the christmas tree isn't there?

It's not about changing the past, it's about creating a listening experience you love.

It's much better than coming here and whining about the album fillers - you should try it.

My response exactly. As if Moz was going to look at these changes and say, "Oh, what a wanker I was!" Broken, go out in the freeway to play jacks or marbles. Come back when you've grown some pubic hairs.

Belligerent Ghoul, would you mind volunteering how many hotmail addresses you have in your personalities' names?

I'll congratulate you anyway on your accomplishment that you, yourself, and yourself have found your track listing 'brilliant'

You can't just put Nobody Loves Us on Maladjusted when it pre-dates that album by 2 years, you've got to have some rules. Also what on earth is Daddy's Voice doing on Southpaw ? You can just about get away with holding back 'I'd Love To' for the Southpaw album, but thats it.

Sir has spoken, the teachers are not afraid of the pupils.

It's all fantasy, but I tend to agree that you need some "rules." The later songs and "I'd Love To" don't fit Southpaw thematically at all.

Bung Do Your Best and Don't Worry" over to a B-side, incorporate "Nobody Loves Us" and "You Must Please Remember"--as well as "Whatever Happens, I Love You." Thematically and musically, the album stays consistent while actually improving lyrically by many notches.

Of course, that notion is all for nought b/c Parlophone owned the master to the latter. Hence the "Sunny" single stepping on the toes of "The Boy Racer."

As one of Southpaw's most ardent advocates, I do have to say that Rhino did it a grave disservice by only using "Do Your Best and Don't Worry" to represent it on the best of. "Reader Meet Author" or "The Boy Racer" would have been much more appropriate and stronger choices.

Cheers,

Jamie
