This song keeps me up at night.

Anyone else a huge fan of this song?

Yes, beautiful song. Especially the last words: "in my own sick way, I'll always stay true to you" :o

Yes brilliant song. one of the best songs on Morrissey's best solo album.

i love this song so much. it stirs something wicked in me; rage and sadness.

id kill to see him sing it.

Definitely. This is the first tour Morrissey has undertaken since its release that it hasn't been played, so it is much missed (and obviously important to him). I don't think there is a better existing solo live performance that matches the version on Introducing Morrissey. It's as feral as rock and roll gets!

And, to think, it was originally only slated to be a B-side of a single!

Cheers,

Jamie

Re: Speedway - Rudolf Hess conection ?

Couldn't agree more - an epic (I have had the closing words put on a T-shirt that I wore at RFH ealrier this year). But I have question. What is it about ? I asked the question here earlier in the year and was told that it probably relates to the life of Rudolf Hess. I don't know a great deal about Hess, but from what I do, I cann't relate his life to this song. Can anybody enlighten me please ?

Well I suppose it must be cheaper than viagra!!

It's the best of his entire career, in my book. Full stop.

Someone's taking the piss!
(But I've heard people moan about how they think that Moz shouts "HESSSSSSSSSS" the second before the big break in the song. Personally I hear "YESSSSSSSSSS", but maybe that's just me).

Yeah...it's the end of the song that does it. All those drums galloping after you, stirring you from your bedy-bye.

I know what you mean. It awakens a strange urgency in myself that I didn't know I had.

A person off this board (name protected) was taking the piss by suggesting a Hess connection - it's a joke and a Larf. Forget it.

I also read somewhere (though I don't remember where) that it was, at least in part, possibly about Marr, especially the last few lines.

I think it's about us, actually... the fans. Considering the fact that Moz at the time was convinced that "Vauxhall" was to be his last ever album, it isn't at all impossible.
