I was wondering if I should buy any Suede albums? I heard one song and I don't care for the singer's voice but I love Bernard Butler. I have his solo album and think he is an incredible guitarist.

I actually love suede, and a lot of it for me is Brett Anderson's voice. I think i like Dog Man Star, their second album the best, and that's where you'll find some of Butler's best guitar work with the group. but, if you think that Brett's voice will ruin it, i say don't bother... it might grow on you though.
I agree with Isabel, You may like Dog Man Star which I think it's their best album even though the last one is pretty good. But since you're interested more in B. Butler I don't think you would like it. Take a chance and buy Dog Man Star you may find that Brett has a really good voice and the music is great. Butler wrote it although I think when they recorded the album the new guitarist (Richard Oakes) was the one that played it. But they're really good.

Yes, his voice take a little while to get used too, but then so does,
Radiohead, the cure, and smashing pumpkins. I second the nomination for dogmanstar, it's an huge album with lots to hear.

Yes, buy DMS. It's by far the best Suede album. And no Richard Oakes did not record any of DMS. Most of it was recorded by Bernard Butler with a few remaining parts recorded by an unamed session player. Richard joined just prior to touring for DMS and had to learn all of the guitar parts in just a few weeks. He did a great job in learning them too! In a lot of ways, Oakes plays better live then Butler, but Butler is a better song writer. Suede will grow on you. Just buy the first two albums and definitely buy Sci-Fi Lullabies too. Disc one is amazing!

Don't believe these people - COMING UP is their best album by light years. That's the one straight after Bernard Butler left. But Neil Codling joined on keyboard and he's very sexy.
Coming Up is ten killer tracks in a T. Rex stylee.
Is "Suede" and "The London Suede" the same group or two totally different ones?

Oh sweet Bernard, when i got the "Dog man star" album it gave me shivers. No one plays like that anymore.....i actualy thought that work was just as good as anything Marr ever did.

yes, i think dog man star is the best album as well; however, the butler-less effort "coming up" is very good. suede has remarkable b-sides as well so sci fi lullabies might be a good choice.

I think Bernard's playing on that album is very good, although... don't you feel that some of the music was a bit... erm, grandiloquent? "Still Life" has to be the most exaggerated song ever written. "Friends and Lovers" isn't a bad album. If you don't have it already, I feel it's worth the money.

I absolutely agree. Buy The first self-titled album(Suede), Dog Man Star and Sci-Fi Lullabies.

Still Life is so overdone, that's the point isn't it? All the drama, I give him an a for effort..

The London Suede is the name Suede have to use in America, because there's a solo singer in the States who goes by the name Suede - she's used it for years.
Best albums: Coming Up (the sound of a group reborn with incredible vigour),then Dog Man Star then Sci-Fi Lullabies.

No, buy Coming Up.
